The invention relates to compositions and methods that are useful in etching a metal surface. In particular, the invention relates to novel acid compositions and methods of using such compositions in etching a metal surface, preferably an aluminum surface prior to anodizing to dissolve impurities, imperfections, scale, and oxide. The compositions are effective in maintaining their etching capacity and in removing smut produced by the etching of a surface as well as in general cleaning.
Method for Producing a Coated Metal Strip Having an Improved Appearance
A process for manufacturing a coated metal strip having a metallic corrosion protection coating is provided. The process includes passing a metal strip through a molten metal bath comprising from 2 to 8 wt % aluminum, 0 to 5 wt % magnesium, up to 0.3 wt % additional elements, and a balance including zinc and inevitable impurities, to yield a molten metal coated metal strip, wiping the molten metal coated metal strip with a nozzle spraying a gas on either side of the molten metal coated metal strip and cooling the coating in a controlled manner until the coating has completely solidified, to obtain the coated metal strip. A temperature of the molten metal bath is from 350 to 700° C., and the cooling is conducted at a rate less than 15° C./s between a temperature on leaving a unit where the wiping occurs and a start of solidification of the coating, and then at a rate greater than or equal to 15° C./s between a start and an end of solidification of the coating.
HIGH-STRENGTH PLATED STEEL SHEET HAVING EXCELLENT PLATING PROPERTIES, WORKABILITY, AND DELAYED FRACTURE RESISTANCE, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME
Disclosed herein is a high-strength plated steel sheet having a plated layer on the surface of a base steel sheet and containing predetermined steel components. The steel sheet includes, in the order from the interface of the base steel sheet and the plated layer towards the base steel sheet: a soft layer having a Vickers hardness that is 90% or less of the Vickers hardness at a portion t/4 of the base steel sheet, where t is a sheet thickness of the base steel sheet; and a hard layer consisting of a structure which is mainly composed of martensite and bainite and in which the average grain size of prior austenite is 20 μm or less. The average depth D of the soft layer is 20 μm or greater, and the average depth d of an internal oxide layer is 4 μm or greater and smaller than D.
Metal sheet having low friction coefficient and low waviness
A metal sheet having a low friction coefficient and a low waviness. Multiple round or roughly-round small pits are distributed on the surface of the metal sheet. The diameter of a single pit ranges from 30 μm to 150 μm, and the overlap between adjacent pits is lower than 10%. On the surface of the metal sheet where the pits are located, the proportion of the area of pits per square millimeter of surface area is greater than 30%, and the difference between the quantities of pits in any unit square millimeter is less than 20%. By means of the proper design of surface microstructure, the friction coefficient and the waviness can be effectively reduced, thereby improving the forming and painting performance of the material.
Nickel-plated, heat-treated steel sheet for battery cans
The present invention provides a nickel-plated heat-treated steel sheet for a battery can (1), having a nickel layer with a nickel amount of 4.4 to 26.7 g/m.sup.2 on a steel sheet (11), wherein when the Fe intensity and the Ni intensity are continuously measured along the depth direction from the surface of the nickel-plated heat-treated steel sheet for a battery can, by using a high frequency glow discharge optical emission spectrometric analyzer, the difference (D2-D1) between the depth (D1) at which the Fe intensity exhibits a first predetermined value and the depth (D2) at which the Ni intensity exhibits a second predetermined value is less than 0.04 μm.
Method for producing coated metallic substrates and coated metallic substrates
The present disclosure relates to coated non-metallic substrates and coated metallic substrates, and methods for producing such coated substrates. A variant of the method is characterized in that a mat or glossy coating is underneath a metallic layer obtained in some cases by way of vapor deposition and/or sputtering. In another variant, the metallic is sufficiently thin so that it remains transparent or translucent to visible light. The coated substrates may include multiple layers such as metallic layers, polysiloxane layers, a color layer, a conversion layer, a primer layer, and/or a transparent or colored layer. An application system for applying a metallic layer to at least one surface of a substrate may include a plasma generator and/or a corona system for treating one or more layers by plasma treatment and/or corona treatment.
