GLASS CONTAINERS AND SEALING ASSEMBLIES FOR MAINTAINING SEAL INTEGRITY AT LOW STORAGE TEMPERATURES

A sealed pharmaceutical container includes a shoulder, a neck extending from the shoulder, and a flange extending from the neck. The flange includes an inclined sealing surface defining an opening in the sealed pharmaceutical container. The sealed pharmaceutical container also includes a sealing assembly including a stopper extending over the sealing surface of the flange and a cap securing the stopper to the flange. The stopper has a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) that is greater than or equal to −70° C. and less than or equal to −45° C. The sealing assembly maintains a helium leakage rate of the sealed pharmaceutical container of less than or equal to 1.4×10.sup.−6 cm.sup.3/s as the sealed pharmaceutical container is cooled to a temperature of less than or equal to −45° C.

Lightweight plastic container and preform

A plastic container is provided that includes a hollow body portion including a lower supporting base portion; a sidewall portion extending upwardly from the base portion; and a neck portion extending upwardly from the sidewall portion. The neck portion includes a support flange having an upper and lower surface, at least one thread, and a dispensing opening at the top of the neck portion. In embodiments, a closure may be provided to form an assembly. In embodiments, the container may be comprised of PET, the weight of the neck portion from the lower surface of the support flange to a top of the dispensing opening may be 3.0 grams or less, and/or the vertical distance from the top of the dispensing opening to the lower surface of the support flange may be 0.580 inches or less. A preform and method for making a container are also disclosed.

Fibrous Elements and Fibrous Structures Employing Same

Fibrous elements, such as filaments, and more particularly to fibrous elements employing a polymer and a wetting agent, methods for making such fibrous elements, fibrous structures employing such fibrous elements, methods for making such fibrous structures and packages containing such fibrous structures are provided.

Self-folding sub-centimeter structures

A sub-centimeter structure includes a first structural component, a second structural component arranged proximate the first structural component, and a joint connecting the first and second structural components. The joint includes a material that has a first phase that is substantially rigid to hold the first and second structural components in a substantially rigid configuration while the material is in the first phase. The material of the joint has a second phase such that the joint is at least partially fluid to allow the first and second structural components to move relative to each other while the material is in the second phase. The joint interacts with the first and second structural components while the material is in the second phase to cause the first and second structural components to move relative to each other. And, the first and second structural components include a polymer.

Polyester resins with particular carbon black as a reheat additive in the production of stretch blow molded bottles and containers

Provided is a polyester or co-polyester resin used in the manufacture of preforms suitable for making bottles and containers containing a carbon black, particularly lamp black carbon black, with a primary particle size in a range of from 100 to 160 nanometers.

Preform extended finish for processing light weight ecologically beneficial bottles

Disclosed are preforms which incorporate improvements in the region of the neck and upper segment of the body to allow the production of lightweight containers, such as bottles suitable for containing water or other beverages. In accordance with certain embodiments, the improvements include a thinner neck finish area than conventional bottles, where the thinner area is extended into the upper segment of the body portion below the support ring. Reducing the thickness in these areas of the bottle allows for less resin to be used in forming the preform and bottle.

A plastic preform includes a hollow body portion including a closed base portion and a lower portion and a lower portion extending upwardly from the closed bottom portion; and a neck portion extending upwardly from the lower portion. The neck portion includes a dispensing opening positioned at a top of the neck portion, threads positioned below the dispensing opening, a tamper-evident formation having a lower surface and positioned directly below the threads, and a support flange having an upper surface and a lower surface and positioned below the tamper-evident formation. In an embodiment, the plastic preform is formed of a material comprising polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and a vertical distance from the lower surface of the tamper-evident formation to the lower surface of the support flange is from 0.125 to 0.150 inches. Containers and methods for molding preforms and making containers are also disclosed.

CROSSLINKED COATING COMPOSITIONS FOR PACKAGING ARTICLES SUCH AS FOOD AND BEVERAGE CONTAINERS

A method of forming a coating on a food or beverage container, which includes spraying a coating composition onto an interior surface of the food or beverage container, where the coating composition includes a latex copolymer and a metal drier or crosslinking agent. The latex copolymer is a reaction product of monomers that include (a) one or more styrene-mimicking monomers containing one or more cyclic groups and one or more ethylenically-unsaturated groups, at least a portion of such styrene-mimicking monomers being polycyclic monomers containing ring unsaturation, and (b) one or more other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of each of BPA, PVC, other halogenated monomers, and optionally styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.
