Luminescent phosphor compounds, articles including such compounds, and methods for their production and use

Embodiments include luminescent phosphor compounds that include one or more emitting ions and one or more disturbing ions, and methods for their production. An emitting ion in the compound may be characterized by a first decay time constant when the emitting ion is undisturbed. However, a corresponding disturbing ion in the compound, which is different from the emitting ion, causes the emitting ion to have a pre-defined, target disturbed decay time constant that is greater than zero and less than the first decay time constant. An embodiment of an authentication system is configured to measure the decay time constant of a phosphor compound applied to an article, and to determine whether the decay time constant corresponds to a phosphor compound that includes a particular disturbing ion (e.g., in order to determine whether or not the article is authentic).

Methods for reducing carbon oxides with non ferrous catalysts and forming solid carbon products
09796591 · 2017-10-24 · ·

A method of reducing a gaseous carbon oxide includes reacting a carbon oxide with a gaseous reducing agent in the presence of a non-ferrous catalyst. The reaction proceeds under conditions adapted to produce solid carbon of various allotropes and morphologies, the selective formation of which can be controlled by means of controlling reaction gas composition and reaction conditions including temperature and pressure. A method for utilizing a non-ferrous catalyst in a reactor includes placing the catalyst in a suitable reactor and flowing reaction gases comprising a carbon oxide with at least one gaseous reducing agent through the reactor where, in the presence of the catalyst, at least a portion of the carbon in the carbon oxide is converted to solid carbon and a tail gas mixture containing water vapor.

A method of forming a sample and performing correlative S/TEM and APM analysis is provided wherein a sample containing a region of interest is cut from a bulk of sample material and formed into an ultra-thin lamella. The lamella is then analyzed with an S/TEM to form an image. The lamella sample and mount may then go through a cleaning process to remove any contamination. The lamella containing the ROI is then embedded within a selected material and is formed into a needle-shaped sample. The needle-shaped sample is then analyzed with the APM and the resulting data is merged and correlated with the S/TEM data.

Platinum-based material thin wire and method for manufacturing the same

A platinum-based material element wire is coated with gold or gold alloy, and drawing-processed with a carbon-containing die. The thin wire manufactured in this manner is covered with gold or gold alloy, and the coverage of gold or gold alloy is 40% or more on an area basis. The thin wire formed of a platinum-based material is manufactured in a state of suppressing breakage in a drawing processing step, and has favorable performance in electric properties and the like. In addition, this manufacturing process is capable of efficiently manufacturing a platinum-based material thin wire while suppressing breakage when the thin wire is manufactured by drawing processing.

Methods of producing silicon carbide, and other metal carbide materials. The method comprises reacting a carbon material (e.g., fibers, or nanoparticles, such as powder, platelet, foam, nanofiber, nanorod, nanotube, whisker, graphene (e.g., graphite), fullerene, or hydrocarbon) and a metal or metal oxide source material (e.g., in gaseous form) in a reaction chamber at an elevated temperature ranging up to approximately 2400° C. or more, depending on the particular metal or metal oxide, and the desired metal carbide being produced. A partial pressure of oxygen in the reaction chamber is maintained at less than approximately 1.01×10.sup.2 Pascal, and overall pressure is maintained at approximately 1 atm.

CONDUCTIVE AND FLEXIBLE CARBON FIBER

A conductive and flexible carbon fiber according to the present disclosure includes a carbon fiber; a resin layer formed on the carbon fiber; and a metal plating layer formed on the resin layer. The resin layer of the carbon and flexible carbon fiber according to the present disclosure is uniformly coated on the carbon fiber, such that a breakage of the carbon fiber during the conductive carbon fiber production process may be prevented. In addition, the metal plating layer having the uniform thickness is plated on the resin layer having the uniform thickness, such that the electric conductivity of the carbon fiber may be improved and the flexibility of the carbon fiber may also be increased. In addition, a production process of the carbon and flexible carbon fiber according to the present disclosure is simplified, such that the production cost and time may be saved.
