MACHINE TOOL SYSTEM AND WORKPIECE TRANSPORT METHOD
A lathe includes a lathe-side chuck that holds a workpiece with the workpiece directed toward or facing a front side, a main spindle that rotates around an axis, and a tool that machines the workpiece. A machining center includes a rotary tool that rotates around an axis in the horizontal direction and an MC-side chuck that holds the workpiece and is able to turn between at least a workpiece pass/receive position in which the workpiece is directed toward or facing the front side and a machining position in which the workpiece is directed toward or facing the rotary tool. A loader includes a guide rail extending above the lathe-side chucks, and MC-side chuck along the horizontal direction and a loader head that holds the workpiece and carries the workpiece between at least the lathe-side chucks, and MC-side chuck by moving along the guide rail.
Methods for handling tubulars useful during cleaning and inspection operations
Methods are disclosed for handling cylindrical tubulars in a process that, in preferred embodiments, also performs cleaning, inspection and other operations on the tubular. The tubular is held stationary while it is rotated. During rotation of the tubular, internal and external cleaning systems, and data acquisition systems, pass up and down the length of the rotating tubular. In preferred embodiments, a first tubular is loaded onto the handling machine, whereupon it is indexed and then rotated. Cleaning, inspection and other operations may be performed during rotation. Once operations are complete, the handling system ejects the first tubular while queuing up a second tubular to be loaded.
Interlocking teeth for strengthening pinned connection between knuckle-jointed lance segments
A Knuckle Jointed Lance (KJL), comprising a segmented lance including a plurality of elongate and hollow KJL segments in a concatenated string thereof. The first segment end of one KJL segment is rotatably connected to the second segment end of a neighboring KJL segment via a pinned connection. Neighboring pairs of KJL segments together provide an interlocking toothed connection such that each interlocking toothed connection restrains relative torsional displacement between the neighboring pair of KJL segments. In other embodiments, pinned connections also provide ears, each with cooperating ear ledges and ear ledge recesses to strengthen the pinned connection.
System and method for removing a workpiece from a manufacturing fixture
A flay assembly for separating a workpiece from a manufacturing fixture has a horizontal beam assembly and a pair of vertical beam assemblies. The horizontal beam assembly includes a horizontal beam having a horizontal drive motor. Each vertical beam assembly includes a vertical beam operably engaged to the horizontal drive motor and has a workpiece attachment assembly operably engaged to a vertical drive motor. The workpiece attachment assembly has an attachment mechanism attachable to the workpiece. The horizontal drive motor and the vertical drive motors are operable in a manner to move the vertical beams away from each other along a horizontal drive axis while simultaneously moving each workpiece attachment assembly along a vertical drive axis to cause the attachment mechanisms to pull the workpiece side portions away from the manufacturing fixture while a center support of the horizontal beam maintains a workpiece crown in contact with the manufacturing fixture.

Enhanced knuckle-jointed lance useful for internal cleaning and inspection of tubulars
A Knuckle Jointed Lance (KJL), comprising a segmented lance including a plurality of connected KJL segments in a concatenated string thereof. The first end of one KJL segment is rotatably connected to the second end of a neighboring KJL segment via a pinned connection. Responsive to user assignment of a predetermined length to each KJL segment in the concatenated string according to the KJL segment's corresponding pre-ordained position in the concatenated string, the lance is disposed to spool onto a reel in nested fashion, such that as the lance makes spooling revolutions onto the reel, (a) KJL segments stack in circumferential registered layers around the reel and (b) pinned connections trace substantially radial vectors from a center of the reel. Other embodiments provide additional features to facilitate nesting and to generally strengthen the KJL.

Apparatus for cutting material and method
A cutting apparatus, for cutting a material, comprising a chuck for holding and rotating material, wherein the chuck can rotate about an axis of rotation and can be movable along the axis of rotation. The cutting apparatus further comprises a cutting element for cutting a material, and a first plurality of rotating elements for supporting the material during cutting operations. The cutting element can be movable vertically for positioning the cutting element adjacent to the material to be cut, and the first plurality of rotating elements can be movable vertically to align with the material. A method for cutting a material comprises the steps of positioning the material on a plurality of rotating members, moving the plurality of rotating members vertically, gripping the material with the chuck, rotating the chuck to rotate the material, and cutting the material with a cutter.
