A gold nanocluster composition and method for preparing the same are provided. The method includes providing a gold ion-containing solution. Next, the method entails mixing the gold ion-containing solution and a reducing agent solution to obtain a first mixture liquid, and heating the first mixture liquid to obtain a second mixture liquid, wherein the second mixture liquid contains the gold nanoclusters, which are partially capped by reducing agent.
ILLUMINANT AND RADIATION DETECTOR
An illuminant has a short fluorescence lifetime, high transparency, and high light yield and a radiation detector uses the illuminant. The illuminant is appropriate for a radiation detector for detecting gamma-rays, X-rays, -rays, and neutron rays, and has high radiation resistance, a short fluorescence decay time and high emission intensity. The illuminant has a garnet structure using emission from the 4f5d level of Ce.sup.3+, and includes a garnet illuminant prepared by co-doping of at least one type of monovalent or divalent cation at a molar ratio of 7000 ppm or less with respect to all cations, to an illuminant having a garnet structure represented by general formula Ce.sub.xRE.sub.3xM.sub.5+yO.sub.12+3y/2 (where 0.0001x0.3, 0y0.5 or 0y0.5, M is one type or two or more types selected from Al, Lu, Ga, and Sc, and RE is one type or two or more types selected from La, Pr, Gd, Tb, Yb, Y, and Lu).
SCINTILLATORS HAVING THE K2PTCL6 CRYSTAL STRUCTURE
According to one embodiment, a scintillator includes a host material having the chemical formula: A.sub.2BX.sub.6, where A includes a monovalent ion, B includes a tetravalent ion, and X includes a halide ion.
Multi-Layer-Coated Quantum Dot Beads
Coated beads made of a primary matrix material and containing a population of quantum dot nanoparticles. Each bead has a multi-layer surface coating. The layers can be two or more distinct surface coating materials. The surface coating materials may be inorganic materials and/or polymeric materials. A method of preparing such particles is also described. The coated beads are useful for composite materials for applications such as light-emitting devices.
Oil detection process, apparatus and taggant therefor
A process for detecting oil or lubricant contamination in a manufactured product (C), preferably a cigarette (C), the process comprising adding a fluorescent taggant to oils or lubricants contained in processing machinery for said product (C), conveying (131) said product (C) past an infrared detection apparatus (140), irradiating said product (C) with infrared radiation from said detection apparatus (140) as it passes the detection apparatus (140), and detecting infrared radiation emitted from said irradiated product (C). The taggant can be in the form of a composition containing a Stokes-shifting taggant, which absorbs radiation at a first wavelength and emits radiation at a second wavelength, different from said first wavelength, dissolved or dispersed in an oil or lubricant.
