In one aspect, an avalanche photo-transistor includes a detection region configured to absorb light incident on a first surface of the detection region and generate one or more charge carriers in response, a first terminal in electrical contact with the detection region and configured to bias the detection region, an interim doping region, a second terminal in electrical contact with the interim doping region and configured to bias the interim doping region, a multiplication region configured to receive the one or more charge carriers flowing from the interim doping region and generate one or more additional charge carriers in response, a third terminal in electrical contact with the multiplication region and configured to bias the multiplication region, wherein the interim doping region is located in between the detection region and the multiplication region.
MULTISPECTRAL ELECTRO-OPTICAL ION-INTERCALATED GRAPHENE ELECTROCHROME CELLS
This invention relates to devices that can controllably vary the properties of graphene with respect to different wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation and particularly its optical properties. The electronically variable optical surfaces of the invention comprise graphene layers with intercalated metal (e.g. lithium) ions. The cell comprises an Li-NMC anode as ion source, an ionic liquid electrolyte, and an multilayer graphene cathode.
THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITION FOR LIDAR SENSOR SYSTEM WITH IMPROVED ABSORPTION PROPERTIES
A sensor system comprises a LiDAR unit having an emitter for laser light having a wavelength of 900 nm to 1600 nm and a receiver for light over a wavelength range which is between 800 nm and 1600 nm and at least partly below the operating wavelength of the LiDAR sensor and a cover having a substrate layer made of thermoplastic material which is arranged such that IR light emitted by the LiDAR unit and received by the LiDAR unit passes through the cover.
Display
A display is described which comprises a plurality of pixels (12), wherein each pixel (12) comprises a plasmonic resonator (26) including first and second metallic material elements (16, 22) and incorporating a layer (18) of a phase change material, the plasmonic resonator (26) being arranged such that in one material state of the phase change material (18) the electric field coupling between the second metallic material element (22) and the phase change material layer (18) is strong and so strong absorption of selected wavelengths of the incident light occurs, whereas in another state of the phase change material (18) the electric field coupling between the metallic material elements (16, 22) and the phase change material layer (18), and between the first and second metallic material elements (16, 22) is weak and so re-radiation of incident light occurs, the pixel (12) being of high reflectance.
