Cam Phase Actuator Control Systems and Methods
The systems and methods described herein provide an approach for cam phase angle control where an axial or rotational position of an actuator of a cam phaser has a direct relationship to the phase angle of the cam shaft, allowing for accurate cam phasing without the need for cam shaft or crank shaft position sensors. Providing phase angle adjustability without the need for crank shaft or cam shaft position sensors enables control of phase angle solely by sensing the axial or rotational position of the actuator of the cam phaser.
Exhaust valve, exhaust valve assembly and exhaust valve system for two-stroke internal combustion engines, two-stroke internal combustion engine having same and method for cleaning an exhaust valve
An exhaust valve system for a two-stroke internal combustion engine having: at least one exhaust valve movable between open and closed positions; an actuator for moving the at least one exhaust valve; a valve position sensor; a controller communicating with the actuator and the valve position sensor. The controller being programmed for: controlling the actuator to attempt to move the at least one exhaust valve to a desired one of the open and closed positions; determining if the at least one exhaust valve has failed to reach the desired position based on the position of the at least one exhaust valve sensed by the valve position sensor; and controlling the actuator to move the at least one exhaust valve to an intermediate position when the at least one exhaust valve has failed to reach the desired position.
Electric camshaft phaser motor—generator
A cam phaser is described for selectively engaging in a torque transmitting mode or an angle control mode. In the torque transmitting mode, torque from a camshaft is transmitted to an e-motor, which functions as a generator and provides electrical energy.
CAMLESS ENGINE
The present disclosure relates to a camless engine in which a camless system is configured for controlling one or more engine valves of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system comprises a pneumatic accumulator configured to store compressed air, and at least one pneumatic actuator having a piston rod. The pneumatic actuator is configured for abutment with the engine valves of the internal combustion engine. The system further comprises at least one pneumatic control valve fluidly connected between the pneumatic accumulator and the pneumatic actuator, a sensor configured to sense an engine parameter and to transmit a signal to actuate the pneumatic control valves and an electronic control unit configured to control the pneumatic valves based on the signal received from the sensor.
A METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A VALVE ARRANGEMENT
A method for controlling a valve arrangement for an internal combustion engine, the valve arrangement including a piston arrangement comprising a piston having a piston end portion facing an inlet valve of the valve arrangement. The method includes receiving a signal indicative of a temperature level of an exhaust gas after treatment system and when the signal indicates a temperature level below a predetermined threshold level: advancing an exhaust event of the internal combustion engine; and controlling the piston arrangement for reducing the distance between the piston end portion and the inlet valve before the internal combustion engine assumes an air intake event.
Control apparatus for electric vehicle
Closing timing of an intake port is changed without using a variable valve timing mechanism. An electric vehicle includes an engine for electricity generation in which closing timing of an intake port maximizes intake air charging efficiency in a specific revolution speed region, a sensor which outputs a signal related to a revolution speed of the engine, a controller which drives the engine at a revolution speed based on the signal of the sensor, a requested electricity generation amount being satisfied at the revolution speed, and a motor which applies a positive or negative torque to the engine. When the engine is driven in a revolution speed region other than the specific revolution speed region, the controller uses the motor to apply a positive or a negative torque to the engine in an intake stroke to change the closing timing of the intake port to increase intake air charging efficiency.
Electronic Valve Train Assembly
An electronic valve train assembly for performing intake and exhaust duties of an internal combustion engine includes a housing that is mounted to a head of an internal combustion engine. A plurality of valves is each movably integrated into the housing and extends into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. A plurality of magnets is each attached to a respective one of the valves. A plurality of first electromagnets is each positioned within the housing to magnetically attract a respective one of the magnets when the first electromagnets are turned on thereby urging the valves into a closed condition. A plurality of second electromagnets is each positioned within the housing to magnetically attract a respective one of the magnets when the second electromagnets are turned on thereby urging the valves into an open condition.
CAMSHAFT TOOTHED WHEEL AND SYNCHRONISATION METHOD USING SUCH A WHEEL
A toothed wheel forming a target for a camshaft position sensor includes a circular body provided with two opposite main faces and is provided on its circumference with teeth. The series of teeth includes eight teeth, each tooth having, for a given first direction of rotation of the wheel, a rising edge and a falling edge and two neighboring teeth being separated by a recessed part. The edges of a first type, rising or falling, are evenly distributed at the periphery of the toothed wheel. The angular length of the recessed parts is greater than or equal to arctan(Llow/R)°CAM, where R is the radius and Llow is the minimum distance between two teeth to detect a low level, except for one recessed part, and the angular length of a tooth is greater than arctan(Lhigh/R)°CAM, except for one tooth, where Lhigh is the minimum length of a tooth allowing detection.
VALVE OPENING AND CLOSING TIMING CONTROL APPARATUS DEVICE
A valve opening and closing timing control device includes a driving-side rotating body, a driven-side rotating body, a stopper configured to determine a mechanical limit of a displacement region of a relative rotation phase, a phase control mechanism configured to change the relative rotation phase, and a control unit configured to control the electric motor so as to displace the actual phase detected by a phase sensor. A limit phase at which the stopper reaches an abutting state is set in advance when rotation of the electric motor is stopped while the internal combustion engine operates. Upon executing stop control of stopping the internal combustion engine, except when the actual phase is already the limit phase, the control unit executes braking control of limiting the rotation of the electric motor by controlling an electric current to be supplied to the electric motor.
Cam phaser lockout kit and method
A method for reducing noise in an engine is disclosed whereby a camshaft phaser is modified by a lockout to limit the movement of the phaser during operation. The lockout is inserted into the phaser's gear without removing the front engine cover using a novel method.
