DIGITALLY-CONTROLLED SWITCH-MODE START-UP CIRCUIT FOR LED-BASED LIGHTS
20170359872 · 2017-12-14 ·

Power consumption in a start-up circuit for a LED-based light bulb may be reduced by digitally switching a transistor of the start-up circuit coupled to the input voltage. When the transistor is digitally switched between on and off, a reduced amount of power is dissipated by the transistor, because it may not enter a saturation region of operation where the resistance of the transistor between drain and source terminals increases. The transistor may be coupled to a voltage regulator for generating one or more output voltages, including a supply voltage for a host controller IC. The transistor may be switched on and off by a digital signal generated by logic circuitry, which may decide to switch the transistor on and off based on a voltage level at an output of the voltage regulator.

Memory card interface and associated memory card provided for loading, saving and/or transferring configuration, update firmware, and log system operation data, which can be automatically recognized to perform appropriate actions. System and method provide switching between different mutually exclusive lighting modes where lighting of each mode is sequenced such that second lighting mode is initiated before first mode is terminated, resulting in continuity of lighting in controlled area. Other features include daylight harvesting control with multiple zone dimming and switching, programmable attack and decay dimming rates, ability to return system to previous dimming level after lights have been turned off, and ability to start controlled lights at full light level then dim down to previous level to ensure lighting ballasts have sufficient start up voltage.

Devices and methods for controlling brightness of a display backlight

Devices and methods for controlling brightness of a display backlight are provided. A display backlight controller may control the brightness of the display backlight by changing a duty cycle of a PWM signal that drives the LED current. However, because of LED efficacy and response time, the final output brightness (NITS) may not be linear between 0% to 100%. The disclosed methods may be used to correct the brightness using a predetermined correction factor. Further, the minimum and maximum duty cycle of the output dimming duty cycle may be limited or corrected. In one example, a backlight controller receives an input duty cycle and determines a product of the input duty cycle and a maximum duty cycle to produce a reduced duty cycle. Moreover, the backlight driver may determine a corrected duty cycle using the correction factor. The final output duty cycle and LED current may then be determined.

White-light LED modules

A white-light LED module is disclosed. The white-light LED module includes a substrate, and a red-light LED chip string, a blue-light LED chip string, and a green-light LED chip string arranged on the substrate. The red-light LED chip string, the blue-light LED chip string, and the green-light LED chip string are connected in parallel. A number of blue LED chips within the blue-light LED chip string equals to the number of green LED chips within the green-light LED chip string. The number of red LED chips within the red-light LED chip string is as double as the number of blue LED chips and the green LED chips. In this way, the light mixture performance of the red, green and blue LED chips may be enhanced.
