In certain example embodiments, the coated article may be heat treated (e.g., thermally tempered, heat bent and/or heat strengthened). Coated articles according to certain example embodiments of this invention may be used in the context of windows, including monolithic windows for buildings, IG windows for buildings, etc.

A compositional range of high strain point and/or intermediate expansion coefficient alkali metal free aluminosilicate and boroaluminosilicate glasses are described herein. The glasses can be used as substrates or superstrates for photovoltaic devices, for example, thin film photovoltaic devices such as CdTe or CIGS photovoltaic devices or crystalline silicon wafer devices. These glasses can be characterized as having strain points 600 C., thermal expansion coefficient of from 35 to 5010.sup.7/ C.

A process for activating a layer supported by a glass substrate includes carrying out a heat treatment in a chamber of a stack of several examples of the glass substrate, the glass substrates being separated by an interlayer powder. The layer to be activated may be an ITO layer, or a titanium oxide layer, or an SiO.sub.2 layer, or a silver layer.

A method for synthesizing nanoparticles includes aerosolizing a precursor solution in the presence of a flowing carrier gas to yield a reactant stream, the precursor solution comprising a volatile solvent and a nanoparticle precursor. The method further includes heating the reactant stream to a temperature above a boiling point of the volatile solvent to form a product stream comprising a plurality of nanoparticles, cooling the product stream, and passing the product stream through a collection liquid to collect the nanoparticles from the product stream.

A coated article includes a coating, such as a low emissivity (low-E) coating, supported by a substrate (e.g., glass substrate). Method for protecting low-E glass plate, method for producing glass unit, laminate and protective sheet for low-E glass plate

Provided is a Low-E glass plate protection method capable of preventing or inhibiting Low-E layer alteration. In the protection method, a protective sheet having a substrate and a PSA layer provided to at least one face of the substrate is applied for protection via the PSA layer to a Low-E glass plate having a Low-E layer that comprises a zinc component. The method is characterized by using the protective sheet wherein the PSA layer is formed from a water-dispersed PSA composition and includes less than 850 g ammonia per gram of PSA layer weight.

TRANSPARENT GLASS-CERAMIC ARTICLES WITH RETAINED STRENGTH AND DISPLAY DEVICES WITH THE SAME

A transparent article is described herein that includes: a glass-ceramic substrate comprising first and second primary surfaces opposing one another and a crystallinity of at least 40% by weight; and an optical film structure disposed on the first primary surface. The optical film structure comprises a plurality of alternating high refractive index (RI) and low RI layers and a scratch-resistant layer. The article also exhibits an average photopic transmittance of greater than 80% and a maximum hardness of greater than 10 GPa, as measured by a Berkovich Hardness Test over an indentation depth range from about 100 nm to about 500 nm. The glass-ceramic substrate comprises an elastic modulus of greater than 85 GPa and a fracture toughness of greater than 0.8 MPa.Math.m. Further, the optical film structure exhibits a residual compressive stress of 700 MPa and an elastic modulus of 140 GPa.
