Indium Tin Oxide Thin Films With Both Near-Infrared Transparency and Excellent Resistivity
20170306470 · 2017-10-26 ·

An indium tin oxide film containing by weight about 90% In.sub.2O.sub.3 and about 10% SnO.sub.2 is prepared using a low-energy deposition sputter process on a substrate. The indium tin oxide film thus obtained has a carrier concentration on the order of 10.sup.20/cm.sup.3 and a carrier mobility greater than 30 cm.sup.2/Vs. The low carrier concentration results in an increased transmission in the near infra-red region, while the high carrier mobility results in good conductive properties.

COATED ARTICLE INCLUDING METAL ISLAND LAYER(S) FORMED USING STOICHIOMETRY CONTROL, AND/OR METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
20170241009 · 2017-08-24 ·

Certain example embodiments relate to techniques for improving the uniformity of, and/or conformance to a desired pattern for, metal island layers (MILs) formed on a substrate (e.g., a glass or other substrate), and/or associated products. Certain example embodiments form MILs using a laser or other energy source or magnetic field assisted technique, e.g., to compensate for non-uniformities that otherwise likely would result in the MIL diverging from its desired configuration. For example, a laser or other energy source may introduce heat onto a substrate, enable pulsed laser deposition, raster a target including the MIL metal to be deposited, raster a substrate where the MIL is to be formed, etc. These and/or other techniques may be used to enable the MIL to be formed on the substrate in a desired pattern, e.g., by compensating for implicit non-uniformities of the substrate and/or by selectively creating non-uniformities in how the MIL is formed.

Coated article with IR reflecting layer(s) and method of making same

A coated article is provided with at least one infrared (IR) reflecting layer. The IR reflecting layer may be of silver or the like. In certain example embodiments, a titanium oxide layer is provided over the IR reflecting layer, and it has been found that this surprisingly results in an IR reflecting layer with a lower specific resistivity (SR) thereby permitting thermal properties of the coated article to be improved.

Radiative cooling device

Provided is a radiative cooling device that provides coloration of the radiative surface while maximally avoiding reduction in its radiative cooling performance due to absorption of solar light. An infrared radiative layer for radiating infrared light from a radiative surface and a light reflective layer disposed on the side opposite to the presence side of the radiative surface of the infrared radiative layer are provided in a mutually stacked state. The light reflective layer is arranged such that a first metal layer made of silver or silver alloy and having a thickness equal to or greater than 10 nm and equal to or less than 100 nm, a transparent dielectric layer and a second metal layer reflecting light transmitted through the first metal layer and the transparent dielectric layer are stacked in this order on the side closer to the infrared radiative layer. The transparent dielectric layer has a thickness that causes a resonance wavelength of the light reflective layer to be a wavelength included in wavelengths equal to or greater than 400 nm and equal to or less than 800 nm.

Heatable lens for luminaires, and/or methods of making the same

Certain example embodiments of this invention relate to heatable glass substrates that may be used in connection with lighting applications, and/or methods of making the same. In certain example embodiments, a glass substrate supports an antireflective (AR) coating on a first major surface thereof, and a conductive coating on a second, opposite major surface thereof. Bus bars connect the conductive coating to a power source in certain example embodiments. The substrate may be heat treated (e.g., heat strengthened and/or thermally tempered), with one or both coatings thereon. The heatable glass substrate thus may help provide a chemical and/or environmental barrier for the luminaire or lighting system disposed behind it. In addition, or in the alternative, the heatable glass substrate may help reduce the amount of moisture (e.g., snow, rain, ice, fog, etc.) that otherwise could accumulate on the luminaire or lighting system.

Transparent substrate, in particular a glass substrate, coated with at least bifunctional porous layer, manufacturing method and uses thereof

A transparent glass or ceramic or glass-ceramic substrate, coated with a functional layer or with a stack of at least two functional layers, the functional layer or at least one of the functional layers of the stack being porous and made of an inorganic material M1, wherein the or at least one of the porous functional layer(s) of inorganic material M1 has, at the surface of at least one portion of the pores thereof, at least one inorganic material M2 different from M1.

SUBSTRATE PROVIDED WITH A STACK HAVING THERMAL PROPERTIES AND A SUPERSTOICHIOMETRIC INTERMEDIATE LAYER

A substrate is coated on one face with a thin-films stack having reflection properties in the infrared and/or in solar radiation including a single metallic functional layer, based on silver or on a metal alloy containing silver, and two antireflection coatings. The coatings each include at least one dielectric layer. The functional layer is positioned between the two antireflection coatings. At least one of the antireflection coatings includes an intermediate layer including zinc oxide Zn.sub.1O.sub.1+x with 0.05<x<0.3 and having a physical thickness of between 0.5 nm and 20 nm, or between 2.5 nm and 10 nm.

ARTICLES WITH PATTERNED COATINGS
20170217831 · 2017-08-03 ·

Embodiments of an article including a substrate and a patterned coating are provided. In one or more embodiments, when a strain is applied to the article, the article exhibits a failure strain of 0.5% or greater. Patterned coating may include a particulate coating or may include a discontinuous coating. The patterned coating of some embodiments may cover about 20% to about 75% of the surface area of the substrate. Methods for forming such articles are also provided.

Temperable electrochromic devices
09723723 · 2017-08-01 · ·

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus for tempering or chemically strengthening glass substrates having electrochromic devices fabricated thereon. In one aspect, an electrochromic device is fabricated on a glass substrate. The glass substrate is then tempered or chemically strengthened. The disclosed methods may reduce or prevent potential issues that the electrochromic device may experience during the tempering or the chemical strengthening processes, including the loss of charge carrying ions from the device, redistribution of charge carrying ions in the device, modification of the morphology of materials included in the device, modification of the oxidation state of materials included in the device, and the formation of an interfacial region between the electrochromic layer and the counter electrode layer of the device that impacts the performance of the device.

Barrier layers comprising Ni and/or Ti, coated articles including barrier layers, and methods of making the same

Certain example embodiments relate to a coated article including at least one infrared (IR) reflecting layer of a material such as silver or the like in a low-E coating, and methods of making the same. In certain cases, at least one layer of the coating is of or includes nickel and/or titanium (e.g., Ni.sub.xTi.sub.yO.sub.z). The provision of a layer including nickel titanium and/or an oxide thereof may permit a layer to be used that has good adhesion to the IR reflecting layer, and reduced absorption of visible light (resulting in a coated article with a higher visible transmission). When a layer including nickel titanium oxide is provided directly over and/or under the IR reflecting layer (e.g., as a barrier layer), this may result in improved chemical and mechanical durability. Thus, visible transmission may be improved if desired, without compromising durability; or, durability may simply be increased.
