Intra-extra oral shock-sensing and indicating systems and other shock-sensing and indicating systems
A mouth guard comprises a base member configured to fit inside the mouth of a user, and at least one shock-sensing and indicating device coupled to the base member. In one exemplary embodiment, the shock-sensing and indicating device is a passive shock-sensing and indicating device that detects a shock substantially along a selected axis with respect to the base member. In another exemplary embodiment, the at least one shock-sensing and indicating device detects a shock substantially along a plurality of selected axes with respect to the base member, each selected axis being substantially orthogonal from another selected axis. The shock-sensing and indicating devices can be configured to detect different levels of shock. In one exemplary embodiment, the shock-sensing and indicating device comprises a multi-component chemical-reaction system, such as a chemi-luminescent reaction system.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR LOCATING PRESSURE SENSITIVE CRITICAL STRUCTURES
The present disclosure relates to devices, systems, and methods for controlling the pressure a sensor applies on the surface of tissue to facilitate locating underlying pressure sensitive critical structures. The laparoscopic device includes a handle and a shaft extending distally from the handle. A flexible member is slidably disposed within the shaft and movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A sensor is coupled to a distal end of the flexible member. The flexible member is configured to flex to limit an amount of pressure applied by the sensor to a tissue surface when the sensor is in contact with a tissue surface.
TACTILE SENSING DEVICE FOR LUMBAR PUNCTURES
Tactile sensing devices, systems, and methods to image a target tissue location are disclosed. When force is applied to the tactile sensing device, voltage data is detected and visualized on a screen, indicating the target tissue location.
System for analyzing a patient using a transcutaneous sensor
A system for analyzing a patient using a transcutaneous sensor, having a base unit for attaching to the patient, an injector, releasably connectable to the base unit, for the transcutaneous insertion of the sensor into the patient, and a detection unit, releasably connectable to the base unit, for generating measurement data by the sensor. The base unit has a holding device which is configured to cooperate with the injector and detection unit such that, in a detection configuration with the detection unit arranged on the base unit, a contact pressure is applied to the sensor by the holding device for frictional fixing, and in an injection configuration with the injector arranged on the base unit, a lower contact pressure than in the detection configuration is applied to the sensor by the holding device.
Device and method for real-time measurement of parameters of mechanical stress state and biomechanical properties of soft biological tissue
A device and a method for simultaneous recording, in real time, parameters characterising the mechanical tension, elasticity, dynamical stiffness, creepability and mechanical stress of soft biological tissue are provided. By means of the myometer, a constant external pre-pressure is created, independently of the device's position, between the tissue and the testing end of the device. Next, the tissue is subjected to a short-term external dynamic influence. A mechanical change in the shape of the tissue and its mechanical response are registered as a graph of the tissue's oscillations. For calculating the parameters, a time span on the graph is used which involves an oscillation period from the beginning to the end of the effect on the tissue plus its subsequent first 1.5 self-oscillation period. This enables recording and data-processing to be carried out simultaneously as well as statistically significant estimates to be made in real time.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO CONDUCT CLINICAL EXAMINATIONS AND SECURELY INTERACT WITH NETWORKED ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS
Disclosed herein is a single portable computing device with components for secure authentication and subject identification with a set of integrated electronic diagnostic instruments that accompany a healthcare or veterinary professional as he or she examines or treats a subject before moving to another subject in another location. The device has a network interface so that secure access can be afforded to an electronic application for updating and observation. The disclosure permits clinicians to examine subjects and securely access protected information from an electronic medical record or similar veterinary application at different locations, that also reduces risk of transmitting infection, improves and facilities secure authentication and subject identification.
Palpometer
A palpometer device for assisting an examiner to evaluate deep pain sensitivity in a patient includes a housing supporting an axially displaceable spring-biased probe having a proximal end extending from an axial bore in a proximal axial face of the housing, and adapted for abutting contact with the patient. Within the housing, the spring-biased probe incorporates an annular flange for engaging one end of a bias spring coaxially disposed within the housing. The bias spring is disposed coaxially about the probe to resist axial displacement of the housing towards the proximal end of the probe upon manual application of a bias force to the housing, when the proximal end of the probe is in contact with a patient's body.
LARYNGEAL MECHANOSENSOR STIMULATOR
This invention is a device that provides feedback controlled pressure output that delivers a highly controlled and accurate air stimulus into the larynx for diagnostic use. The device is designed to be significantly more accurate, safer for the patient, and highly modular for easy future modifications compared to previously available commercial devices.
AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR
An automatic external defibrillator includes an AED body having a pair of defibrillation pads applied to a chest of a rescuee to apply an electric shock to the rescuee; and a pulse wave sensor unit connected to the AED body to detect a pulse wave in a head of the rescuee.
SKIN PERFUSION MONITORING DEVICE
A method and a device for diagnostic of skin cancer and other mammalian skin tissue pathologies are described. The method relies on determination of pathological changes in tissue vascularization and capillary blood flow. The device uses photonic emitters and detectors to characterize temporal and spatial changes in blood flow in response to external perturbation such as external mechanical force or temperature change.
