System and method for locating and identifying the functional nerves innervating the wall of arteries and catheters for same
System and method for locating and identifying nerves innervating the wall of arteries such as the renal artery are disclosed. The present invention identifies areas on vessel walls that are innervated with nerves; provides indication on whether energy is delivered accurately to a targeted nerve; and provides immediate post-procedural assessment of the effect of energy delivered to the nerve. The method includes at least the steps to evaluate a change in physiological parameters after energy is delivered to an arterial wall; and to determine the type of nerve that the energy was directed to (none, sympathetic or parasympathetic) based on the evaluated results. The system includes at least a device for delivering energy to the wall of blood vessel; sensors for detecting physiological signals from a subject; and indicators to display results obtained using this method. Also provided are catheters for performing the mapping and ablating functions.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING AND EVALUATING NEUROMODULATION THERAPY
Systems and methods for informing and evaluating neuromodulation therapy are disclosed herein. A system configured in accordance with embodiments of the present technology can include, for example, a guidewire having a proximal portion, a distal portion configured to be positioned at a target site in a blood vessel of a human patient, and a sensing element positioned along the distal portion. The sensing element can be a pressure sensing element, a flow sensing element, an impedance sensing element, and/or a temperature sensing element. The system can further include a controller configured to obtain one or more measurements related to a physiological parameter of the patient via the sensing element. Based on the measurements, the controller can determine the physiological parameter and compare the parameter to a predetermined threshold. Based on the comparison, the controller and/or the operator can assess the likelihood of the patient benefiting from neuromodulation therapy.
Computer aided diagnosis system for classifying kidneys
A computer aided diagnostic system and automated method to classify a kidney utilizes medical image data and clinical biomarkers in evaluation of kidney function pre- and post-transplantation. The system receives image data from a medical scan that includes image data of a kidney, then segments kidney image data from other image data of the medical scan. The kidney is then classified by analyzing at least one feature determined from the kidney image data and the at least one clinical biomarker.
CATHETER FOR CARDIAC AND RENAL NERVE SENSING AND MEDIATION
An electrophysiology catheter includes: a catheter with a movable catheter tip; electrodes provided on or in an electrode region in a most distal portion of the catheter tip; sensing and amplification circuitry communicated with the electrodes, the sensing and amplification circuitry communicated with digitizing circuitry disposed in a circuitry region in a least distal portion of the catheter tip for locally sensing tissue-based electrophysiological signals and for bidirectionally communicating digital data signals to and from the circuitry; a flexible bending region of the catheter tip between the most and least distal portions of the catheter tip; a flexible sheath communicated to the sensing and amplification circuitry and digitizing circuitry for transmission of signals thereon; and a handle communicated with the sheath for bidirectionally communicating signals through the sheath between the catheter tip and external mapping station, and for controlling movement of the catheter tip.
Renal function analysis method and apparatus
A method for measuring a glomerular filtration rate in a mammalian kidney comprises a source of reporter and marker fluorescent molecules. The fluorescent molecules are introduced into the blood stream of a mammalian subject. Over a period of time, a measurement of the intensities of the reporter and marker fluorescent molecules is taken. A ratio is calculated to determine the health of the subject's kidney. This method measures volume of plasma distribution based on a fluorescence of a marker molecule relative to a fluorescence of a reporter molecule.
Endovascular Nerve Monitoring Devices and Associated Systems and Methods
Endovascular nerve monitoring devices and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. A nerve monitoring system configured in accordance with a particular embodiment of the present technology can include a shaft having a proximal portion and a distal portion and a nerve monitoring assembly at the distal portion. The shaft is configured to locate the distal portion intravascularly at a treatment site. The nerve monitoring assembly can include a bipolar stimulation electrode array and a bipolar recording electrode array disposed distal to the bipolar stimulation electrode assembly.
BREATH ANALYZER DEVICES AND BREATH TEST METHODS
The present invention provides an improved breath analyzer and breath test method to determine the presence of disease in humans, including but not limited to, the bacterium H. pylori in a subjects digestive tract. In certain embodiments, the present invention provides a universal breath testing platform and methods of testing for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the liver, the kidneys, and the lungs, along with testing for cancer, infections, and metabolic diseases.
Catheter assemblies, oxygen-sensing assemblies, and related methods
An oxygen-sensing assembly for attachment to a urinary catheter may include a housing having a flow pathway extending between an inlet end and an outlet end thereof, an oxygen sensor in operable communication with the flow pathway of the housing, the oxygen sensor configured to detect oxygen levels of a fluid flowing through the flow pathway, a flowrate sensor configured to detect a flowrate of the fluid flowing through the flow pathway, and a temperature sensor configured to detect a temperature of the fluid flowing through the flow pathway.
PROTOCOL FOR TREATMENT OF LUPUS NEPHRITIS
By employing a pharmacodynamic dosing regimen, the effectiveness of a protocol for treatment of a proteinuric kidney disease with voclosporin can be maximized while minimizing undesirable side effects.
