RESIN COMPOSITION PRODUCTION METHOD AND RESIN COMPOSITION

The resin composition production method includes a step in which a cellulose fiber composition containing 5 to 45 parts by mass of water with respect to a total of 100 parts by mass of cellulose fibers (A) and an acrylic resin and/or a styrene acrylic resin (B) is kneaded with a thermoplastic resin (C), and water is removed until the water content after kneading falls to 1% or less. The resin composition production method is also characterized in that: 20 parts by mass or more and 200 parts by mass or less of the resin (B) is blended with respect to 100 parts by mass of the cellulose fibers (A), the dissolution amount of the resin (B) in 100 g of water at 25° C. is less than 1 g, and the glass transition temperature of the resin (B) is 40 to 150° C.

Composite materials

A fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composite structure incorporates a woven preform containing tows of carbon or other advanced fibres and wires of shape memory alloy (SMA). The SMA wires are capable of absorbing much larger amounts of strain energy than the conventional components of FRP composites and hence enhance the impact resistance of the structure. The woven form incorporates the SMA into the structure in an optimum manner in terms of handling and performance.

A method for preparing a sacrificial support material for use in printing a three-dimensional (3D) article includes providing a water-soluble thermoplastic polymer composite including a water-soluble thermoplastic polyethylene oxide graft polymer having a polyethylene oxide polymer backbone, and from about 0.05% to about 10% by weight of the polyethylene oxide polymer backbone of at least one polar vinyl monomer grafted to the polyethylene oxide polymer backbone. One or more nanoscopic particulate processing aids may be uniformly dispersed in the graft polymer in an amount of from about 0.05% to about 10% by weight of the water-soluble thermoplastic polymer composite. The water-soluble thermoplastic polymer composite may have a viscosity in the range of about 100 to about 10,000 Pa-sec. The method may also include forming the water-soluble thermoplastic polymer composite into the 3D printable sacrificial support material.

METAL-FIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC COMPOSITE

The invention has as its object the provision of a metal-fiber reinforced plastic composite able to more reliably prevent occurrence of an electrolytic corrosion action when forming a composite of a metal member and a fiber reinforced plastic layer comprising reinforcing fiber (carbon fiber) and a matrix resin.

A metal-fiber reinforced plastic composite 1 according to the present invention comprises a metal member 10, an insulating layer 30 arranged on at least part of a surface of the metal member 10 and comprising a first matrix resin 31 containing nonconductive fiber 32, and a CFRP layer 40 arranged on at least part of a surface of the insulating layer 30 and comprising a second matrix resin 41 containing carbon fiber 42, wherein, when viewing the surface of the metal member 10 from vertically above, the CFRP layer 40 is positioned at the inside of a region where the insulating layer 30 is present and an outer edge of the CFRP layer 40 and an outer edge of the insulating layer 30 are 0.2 mm or more apart. Due to this, it is possible to prevent electrolytic corrosion of the metal member.
