Detecting short circuits in electrosurgical medical devices
An electrosurgical system for providing an electrosurgical signal to a patient is disclosed. The electrosurgical system includes a control circuit, wherein the control circuit is programmed to: provide the electrosurgical signal to a first electrode and a second electrode, receive a plurality of input variables, wherein the plurality of input variables are indicative of a short being either present or absent between the first electrode and the second electrode, and apply a short detection algorithm to the plurality of input variables to indicate either a short circuit or no short circuit between the first electrode and the second electrode during the provision of the electrosurgical signal. The plurality of input variables may include at least one impedance level between the first electrode and the second electrodes during the provision of the electrosurgical signal. The short detection algorithm applied may include a fuzzy logic algorithm, a neural network algorithm, or neuro-fuzzy algorithm.

A computer implemented method for estimating tissue parameters, includes collecting data, from a surgical system including an instrument and an energy source, the data including at least one electrical parameter associated with delivering energy from the instrument to tissue, communicating the data to at least one machine learning algorithm, determining, using the at least one machine learning algorithm, a tissue parameter based upon the data, communicating the determined tissue parameter to a computing device associated with the energy source for use in formulating an energy-delivery algorithm for delivering energy from the instrument to tissue, and delivering energy from the instrument of the surgical system to tissue in accordance with the energy-delivery algorithm.

An electrosurgical system, including: an electrosurgical generator, and an electrosurgical instrument configured to connect to the electrosurgical generator through a three-pin connector; wherein the electrosurgical instrument includes an electrosurgical electrode connected to a first pin of the three-pin connector, and one of an activation switch circuit and an instrument identification circuit connected to a second pin and a third pin of the three-pin connector; wherein the electrosurgical generator is configured to detect, upon connection of the electrosurgical instrument to the electrosurgical generator, whether the electrosurgical instrument includes an activation switch circuit or an instrument identification circuit; and, if the electrosurgical instrument includes an activation switch circuit, connect the second and third pin of the three-pin connector to an activation switch unit, or, if the electrosurgical instrument includes an instrument identification circuit, connect the second and third pin of the three-pin connector to an instrument identification unit.
SURGICAL SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OPERATION THEREOF
Surgical systems as well as methods for the operation thereof having a surgical instrument connected to a surgical apparatus and controlled by the latter. The surgical apparatus controls at least one operation parameter (B) of the surgical instrument. For example, the operation parameter (B) can be a parameter of an electrical output signal, such as an amplitude and/or a frequency and/or a wave form. The surgical system has an evaluation unit that is configured to identify the currently carried out or planned type of use (V) of the surgical instrument or the entire surgical system, wherein the type of use (V) is characteristic for the type of surgery that is to be carried out. At least one pattern parameter (M) is assigned to the identified type of use (V), which can be compared to a respectively assigned operation parameter (B). Based on the result of the comparison, at least one measure (X) can be started, e.g. the output of an information (INF) and/or the adaption of at least one operation parameter (B).
Automatic monitoring for and detection of tissue pop
A system that automatically detects a myocardial barotrauma (i.e., tissue pop) event so that proper post-procedure care can be given includes an electronic control unit (ECU), a computer-readable memory coupled with the ECU, and detection logic stored in the memory configured to be executed by the ECU. The detection logic is configured to receive a signal generated by an electro-acoustic transducer related to acoustic activity within the patient, monitor the signal for a pre-determined indication of a barotrauma event, and output a notification when the pre-determined indication is detected. The transducer can be integrated with an extra-body patch that includes one or more electrodes for use with a medical device navigation system.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GENERATING HEAT AT TARGET AREA OF PATIENTS BODY
The embodiments herein provide a method and system is provided for generating and distributing heat at a target area of a patient's body for treating lesions, tumors, cancers, body pain and nerve pain. The generated heat and the tissue temperature are monitored in real time. The system comprises a radio frequency (RF) antenna for receiving the RF waves generated from the RF generator. A RF absorber comprising several closed loop circuits and a miniaturized thermometer are implanted inside the body close to the target tissue. A controller/optimizer regulates a frequency and a transmission timing of the RF waves based on the measured target tissue temperature. The thermometer, the RF absorber and the wireless transmitter are placed in a screw. The RF absorber is made of metal with RF absorption rate higher than that of biological tissues. A ultrasound energy is also used to treat the target area.
DETECTING SHORT CIRCUITS IN ELECTROSURGICAL MEDICAL DEVICES
A control circuit for use with an electrosurgical system is disclosed. The control circuit is programmed to provide an electrosurgical signal comprising a plurality of pulses to first and second electrodes and receive a first reading of an impedance between the first and second electrodes. The control circuit is programmed to receive a second reading of the impedance between the first and second electrodes. The control circuit is programmed to determine a difference between the first and second readings and determine that a short circuit is present between the first and second electrodes based on a magnitude of the difference between the first reading and the second reading. The control circuit is programmed to generate a signal indicating the short circuit between the first and second electrodes.
