The invention to which this application relates is improvements to the provision of Molybdenum and/or Tungsten containing coatings of the type which can be used to improve certain characteristics of the surface of a substrate to which the coating is applied. In one embodiment the coating also includes Ti to provide the advantages of high adhesion, high humidity and wear resistance of the coating and TiB.sub.2 to promote the formation of a relatively uniform, dense, coating, so strengthening the coating which is formed and improving the high temperature performance of the coatings.

The present invention is concerned with a method of generating a lubrication interface. The method has the steps of a) providing a target substrate and a growth substrate adjacent the target substrate with a confinement space defined therebetween, b) allowing a predetermined amount of water onto a surface of the target substrate in the confinement space thus forming a water layer, c) adding a predetermined amount of a sample of a molybdenum disulfides (MoS.sub.2) layer on the water layer thus allowing the water in the water layer to bind with the surface of the molybdenum disulfides (MoS.sub.2) layer, d) cooling down the target substrate to cryogenic temperature so as to freeze the water layer thus forming a molybdenum disulfides (MoS.sub.2) ice layer on the target substrate, and e) detaching the growth substrate from the molybdenum disulfides (MoS.sub.2) ice layer thus leaving the molybdenum disulfides (MoS.sub.2) ice layer.

The method includes: acquiring frictional force data of a friction pair corresponding to the molybdenum disulfide under different electron beam irradiation conditions, and the different electron beam irradiation conditions includes different accelerating voltage conditions and different electron beam current conditions; acquiring frictional characteristic data of the molybdenum disulfide based on the frictional force data of the friction pair corresponding to the molybdenum disulfide under the different electron beam irradiation conditions; and controlling, after acquiring a target frictional force of the molybdenum disulfide, an electron beam to irradiate the molybdenum disulfide based on the frictional characteristic data of the molybdenum disulfide, to regulate a frictional force of the friction pair corresponding to the molybdenum disulfide to the target frictional force.
