Brain Cooling Method and Portable Device
20190343678 · 2019-11-14 · ·

A noninvasive, brain cooling method and device for cerebral cooling via a patient's nasopharyngeal cavity, is described. Thermal conductive nasal prongs are inserted into a nasal cavity and are cooled by thermoelectric cooling elements. An outward air driving fan inside the device drives a cold air current through the nasal and oral cavities. Heat transfer between the cold air and the surface of the nasal cavity cools the nasal cavity, which in turn, cools a patient's brain. Real-time temperature sensing data provides feedback for closed-loop cooling control.

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to the treatment of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, heart failure, end-stage renal disease, digestive disease, urological disease, cancers, tumors, pains, asthma, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by delivering of an effective amount of formulations at desired temperature to target tissue. The formulations include gases, vapors, liquids, solutions, emulsions and suspensions of one or more ingredients. The temperature may enhance safety and efficacy of the formulations for the treatments. The amounts of the formulation and/or energy are effective to injury or damage the tissues to have a benefit of symptom relive.

EPILEPTIC SEIZURE PREVENTION OR TREATMENT VIA HEART RATE CLAMPING

We report a method of treating an epileptic seizure in a patient, comprising: detecting said epileptic seizure, based on body data from said patient; and reducing a flow of blood to a brain of said patient in response to said detected seizure; wherein said reducing is effected by: increasing the parasympathetic input to said patient's heart, such as by electrically stimulating a parasympathetic nervous structure, applying cooling energy to a sympathetic nervous structure, or administering a cholinergic or a sympatho-blocking agent to said patient. We also report a medical device system configured to implement the method. We also report a non-transitory computer readable program storage unit encoded with instructions that, when executed by a computer, perform the method.

A multi-function module is proposed. The module may be coupled to a refrigerant supply device so as to mix a composition with a refrigerant supplied from the refrigerant supply device and spray the same to the outside. The module may include a mixer configured to provide a mixing space for the refrigerant and the composition, and a combiner to be coupled to the refrigerant supply device. The module may further include a sprayer configured to spray the refrigerant into the mixing space, and an inlet configured to provide a flow path of the composition to the mixing space. The refrigerant sprayed through an outlet hole may form negative pressure at a second end of the inlet so that the composition moves to the flow path through a first end of the inlet and flows into the mixing space through the second end of the inlet.

DENSE PHASE MATERIAL TRANSPORT IN PULMONARY SYSTEM

Systems for dense phase transport of frozen and other particles to the respiratory system include a particle source, a delivery chamber for metering boluses of the particles from the source, and a transfer tube for fluidized transport of the particles to a patient interface. A controller may be provided to adjust the rate and amount of the bolus deliver to a patient to control core body temperature and for other purposes.

LOCAL COOLING ANESTHESIA DEVICE, METHOD OF CONTROLLING LOCAL COOLING ANESTHESIA DEVICE, AND COOLING TEMPERATURE REGULATOR OF LOCAL COOLING ANESTHESIA DEVICE

The present invention relates to a method and system for producing and delivering sterile, airless, and highly loaded ice slurry for inducing therapeutic hypothermia. The method is capable of producing and delivering ice slurry in a patient to induce hypothermia through internal and external cooling methods such as subcutaneous, intravascular, intraperitoneal, gastrointestinal, and lung methods. The method is capable of producing and delivering saline ice slurry or other phase-change slurries compatible with human tissues. Ice slurry is made by crushing, smoothing, and mixing ice slush in an airtight and self-collapsible liquid container, followed by being pumped out through flexible tubing and injection port into a patient body without air. The novel method and system are simple, and easy to use, which facilitate long term storage, immediately ready to use, and airless delivery.
