A grease composition includes a base oil, a thickener, and an extreme pressure additive. The base oil contains trimellitate ester and poly--olefin. A proportion of the trimellitate ester to a total amount of the trimellitate ester and the poly--olefin is 10.0 mass % or more and 60.0 mass % or less. The thickener contains lithium 12-hydroxystearate and lithium stearate. A proportion of the lithium 12-hydroxystearate to a total amount of the lithium 12-hydroxystearate and the lithium stearate is 5.0 mass % or more and 95.0 mass % or less. The extreme pressure additive contains molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate. A proportion of the molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate to a total amount of the trimellitate ester, the poly-a-olefin, the lithium 12-hydroxystearate, the lithium stearate, and the molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate is 0.6 mass % or more and 16.0 mass % or less.

Grease composition

The instant disclosure provides a grease composition containing an ash-free phosphonate ester mixture, which comprises of an ash-free phosphonate ester mixture of a cyclic phosphonate ester species and an oligomeric phosphonate ester species. The grease composition further includes a metallic soap thickener. The grease compositions disclosed herein demonstrate improved anti-wear protection under very demanding conditions and load carry.

Greases that are suitable for use in high temperature applications and are cost-effective alternatives to lithium greases. The greases are prepared from an oil of lubricating viscosity; 1.0 to 22.5 wt % of an overbased metal detergent; 5.0 to 18.5 wt % of a metal carboxylate soap component that is the reaction product of a metal hydroxide and/or metal carbonate with a fatty acid; 0.2 to 8.0 wt % of an oxygenate promoter (for example alcohols and/or organic acids); and 1 to 15 wt % of water. The greases have dropping points of at least 220 C., as measured using ASTM D2265.
