A method for creping paper includes applying an adhesive composition to an outer surface of a creping cylinder (Yankee cylinder) to form an adhesive coating, contacting paper with the adhesive coating, removing the paper and adhesive coating from the creping cylinder, and determining a quality of the adhesive coating. Determining the quality of the adhesive coating may include measuring a degree of cross-linking of the adhesive polymer, a concentration of the adhesive polymer in the adhesive coating, a water content of the adhesive coating, an ash content of the adhesive coating, or combinations thereof. Determining the quality of the adhesive coating may also include determining a thickness of the adhesive coating by measuring light absorbed by the coating and calculating the thickness using Beer's Law. Systems and apparatuses for determining the quality of the adhesive coating and for creping paper are also disclosed.

Soft treated tissue product

The present invention provides multi-ply creped tissue products, and in particular embodiments creped wet-pressed tissue products, having substantially higher per-ply basis weights, such as from about 14.0 grams per square meter or greater. Despite having relatively high per-ply basis weights, the products are generally soft and flexible, such as having a softness value (measured as TS7) less than about 10.0 and a Stiffness Index less than about 20.0. While being soft and flexible, the tissue products are durable enough to withstand use, such as having a geometric mean tensile (GMT) greater than about 1,000 g/3″.

Fibrous structures

Fibrous structures, and more particularly sanitary tissue products containing fibrous structures having a surface exhibiting a three-dimensional (3D) pattern such that the fibrous structure and/or sanitary tissue product exhibits novel properties compared to known fibrous structures and/or sanitary tissue products, and methods for making same are provided.

CREPED FIBROUS STRUCTURES

Creped fibrous structures having pillows and knuckles, wherein the creped fibrous structures may exhibit improved knuckle properties, such as Knuckle Roughness Ra, Knuckle Roughness Rq, and Knuckle Creping Frequency and methods for making same are provided, and/or may comprise elongate knuckles comprising discrete pillows and/or elongate pillows between first and second elongate knuckles.

CREPING ADHESIVES COMPRISING POLYELECTROLYTE COMPLEX

The present application is directed to creping adhesives. The adhesive forms from a solution/dispersion of a polyelectrolyte complex that is composed of a mixture of one or more cationic polyelectrolytes, and one or more anionic polyelectrolytes. This adhesive complex offers several desirable features when compared to conventional, non-complex adhesives such as improved coating durability, wet tack and tunable coating softness, which are key properties for an adhesive to function as a creping adhesive.

Yankee adhesive compositions and methods of using these compositions

The invention relates to a method of transferring a tissue web with residual moisture to a Yankee cylinder and final removal of the dried tissue web from the Yankee cylinder using a doctor blade and collecting the dried web on a reel-up machine forming a tissue reel. The invention also relates to the Yankee adhesive composition per se. The method involves preparation of a water solution of a Yankee adhesive composition with less than 10% final solids content to be applied on the surface of the Yankee cylinder ahead of transferring the tissue web with residual moisture to the Yankee cylinder. The inventive method applies an aqueous PVOH solution with a very high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol as a part of the solid content of the Yankee adhesive in an amount ranging from 20-65% of the final solids content of the Yankee adhesive. The aqueous PVOH solution with the very high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol establish a viscosity ranging from 90 cP to 300 cP.
