A panel, including a centrally located core provided with an upper side and a lower side, at least one first coupling part and at least one second coupling part connected respectively to opposite edges of the core, which first coupling part comprises an upward tongue, at least one upward flank lying at a distance from the upward tongue and an upward groove formed in between the upward tongue and the at least one upward flank, wherein a recessed portion is shaped like a triangle and the underside of the upward tongue is at an angle; wherein at least a part the side of the upward tongue facing away from the at least one upward flank is located at a distance from at least a part of the at least one upward flank; and wherein the recessed portion extends over at least 90% of the distance.

The panel includes a first pair of opposite edges; these comprise male and female coupling parts - in the form of a tongue and groove and locking elements - in order to couple two such panels to each other on their first pair of opposite edges. The panel and coupling parts thereof are configured so that in a covering formed with these panels, the expansion and contraction of the panels in the coupling zone on the first pair of opposite edges is compensated in this coupling zone itself.

A set of building panels, each building panel has a decorative surface and a mechanical locking device for horizontal and vertical locking of similar or essentially identical building panels in an assembled position. An upper edge portion of a side edge of a first building panel and an upper edge portion of a side edge of a second building panel are, in the assembled position, juxtaposed to form a joint seal. The rear wall forms the rear side of the composed element and includes one or more rear wall parts. The composed element comprises seats for installing at least one of the rear wall parts, which are configured such that the rear wall part can be slid into the seats starting from the rear side of the composed element from a position differing from the final plane in which the rear wall part will be situated in the final condition.

A floor panel for forming a floor covering, wherein this floor panel comprises a substrate, which substrate is manufactured on the basis of synthetic material; wherein this floor panel, on at least one pair of opposite edges, comprises coupling parts, which coupling parts allow that two such floor panels can be coupled to each other by means of a downward movement of one floor panel in respect to the other floor panel.

A panel element may be provided for a covering. In particular, a panel element for a floor, wall or ceiling covering, which covering may be formed by a plurality of panel elements of the same kind which are connected to one another. Each panel element has a basic body having a defined total thickness and upper and a lower surfaces. The basic body has in each case differently contoured longitudinal sides and in each case differently contoured end faces. One longitudinal side has groove-like contouring and the other longitudinal side has tongue-like contouring corresponding thereto.
