A phacoemulsification system includes a pump and a processor. The pump includes: (i) a first chamber having a first volume and configured to flow a first fluid at a first flow rate, between a first reservoir and an eye of a patient, and (ii) a second chamber having a second volume and configured to flow a second fluid at a second flow rate, between a second reservoir and the eye. The processor is configured to control the pump to: (i) set a first flow rate of the first fluid in the first volume, so as to obtain a predefined intra-ocular pressure (IOP) in the eye, (ii) based on the first and second volumes and on the first flow rate, calculate a second flow rate of the second fluid that maintains the predefined IOP constant, and (iii) set the calculated second flow rate to the second fluid.

An active irrigation system for controlling delivery of irrigation fluid to a surgical site includes a chamber having at least one fluid port for introducing an irrigation fluid from a fluid source into the chamber and delivering the irrigation fluid to a surgical site. A variable pressure source is provided in fluid communication with the chamber and is configured to pressurize the chamber. A pressure sensor also in fluid communication with the chamber monitors the pressure within the chamber and a controller adjusts the variable pressure source to maintain the desired irrigation pressure within the chamber.

SURGICAL DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FACILITATING MULTIPLE FLOW PATH FLUID MANAGEMENT

A fluid management cassette includes a cassette body configured for insertion into a cassette bay of a control console, the cassette body including a face plate having at least one fluid input port and at least first and second fluid output ports defined therethrough. A pump is disposed within the cassette body as is a valve manifold, first and second pinch valves, or at least one pressure sensitive valve. First and second fluid flow paths extending through the cassette body have shared connections to the pump and separate connections to the respective first and second fluid output ports. The valve manifold, first and second pinch valves, or at least one pressure sensitive valve is selectively actuatable to at least four different configurations to permit fluid flow along either, neither, or both of the first and second fluid flow paths.

Device and method for tempering the flow of liquids in medical devices

The present invention relates to an apparatus for flow tempering medical irrigation fluids and to a method carried out with the aid of this apparatus.

FLUIDICS CASSETTE FOR OCULAR SURGICAL SYSTEM

Methods, devices, and systems for laser eye surgery generally make use of a console that interchangeably accepts multiple types of eye treatment cassettes. The cassettes enable one or both of displacement-based or vacuum-based aspiration. The console and the cassette may communicate to establish the functionality of the installed cassette by utilizing a component indigenous to the operation of the cassette. A dual-mode cassette may include a separable holding tank for enabling vacuum-based aspiration. A displacement-based pump may be provided to drain the holding tank while the vacuum system continues to aspirate fluids. A vacuum sensor for controlling the flow of aspirated fluids may have three ports for communicating with a handpiece, a displacement-based pump, a vacuum-based pump, or an irrigation source. The handpiece may be vented during vacuum-based aspiration by opening a vent valve interposed between the handpiece and the vacuum source.

Provided is a container for connection to a device for suctioning bodily fluids and for supplying a fluid substance to a human or animal body said container comprising an interior which is divided into a first region for collecting the suctioned bodily fluids and into a second region for providing the fluid substance The first region of the interior is separated from the second region by means of a flexibly realized partition wall

Systems and methods for proportional pressure and vacuum control in surgical system

A pneumatic cross-connect proportional valve provides the capability to calibrate pressure and vacuum sensors in a surgical cassette associated with a surgical console. Calibration of non-invasive pressure and vacuum sensors in a cassette by utilizing a proportional cross-connect to pressurize the lines with set pressure or vacuum the lines with set vacuum and measure the response of respective sensors in the cassette. The use of proportional pressure may be used along with other clearing methods to clear material clogging the aspiration channel pathways and tubing of the surgical system. Utilize the cross-connect functionality to more rapidly pressurize the aspiration line upon detection or prediction of a post occlusion surge, thereby reducing the pressure difference between the surgical field, the eye chamber, and aspiration line which may prevent, for example, a surge of fluid out of the anterior chamber of the eye.

Cassette annunciation

A surgical console has a receptacle for receiving a surgical fluidics cassette. The receptacle has a light source that transmits light to light pipes in the surgical fluidics cassette. The light pipes transmit light to a light transmissive optical interface surrounded by an opaque frame in the surgical fluidics cassette. The opaque frame is located at a fluid level detection system in the cassette. The system illuminates fluidic connectors on the surgical fluidics cassette without interfering with the fluid level detection system of a surgical console.

Instillation cartridge for vacuum actuated fluid delivery

A fluid delivery system, method, and apparatus for providing instillation therapy with a negative-pressure source is described. The apparatus includes a housing having an ambient chamber and a negative-pressure chamber fluidly isolated from each other. The apparatus also includes a moveable barrier disposed in the housing between the ambient chamber and the negative-pressure chamber. The moveable barrier is operable to move between a charge position and a discharge position in response to negative pressure. A fluid source is disposed in the negative-pressure chamber and is collapsible in response to movement of the moveable barrier to the discharge position. The apparatus also includes a fluid outlet in fluid communication with the fluid source, a negative-pressure port in fluid communication with the negative-pressure chamber and configured to be coupled to a negative-pressure source, and a vent formed in the housing and fluidly coupled to the ambient chamber.
