Methods for controlling weeds and water using a bag filled with landscaping material

A bag constructed of a weed suppression material for packaging a ground cover material. When the bag is in a closed configuration, the bag serves as a container for shipping, handling, and storage of the ground cover material. When the bag is opened and unfolded, and the ground cover material within the bag is spread over the opened and unfolded bag, the bag serves as a layer of weed suppression material on top of underlying soil and beneath the ground cover. In addition, the bag may be used for planting individual plants in a planting bed, for establishing a buffer zone around the foundation of a building, or for controlling erosion around a downspout of a building.

The hinged chute and connector for a downspout is a device that is adapted to attach to a bottom end of a downspout. Moreover, the hinged chute is pivotably engaged with respect to the connector. The connector is affixed to the bottom end of the downspout. The hinged chute is able to rotate down when in use, and rotate up when not in use. A strap is used to encircle both the downspout and the hinged chute in an up position when the hinged chute is not in use. The hinged chute pivots with respect to the connector via a rod and a wing nut. The hinged chute is able to rotate down to an in-use position when rainwater is delivered via the downspout.

The rainwater diverter apparatus comprises a housing body that includes: an inlet, a primary outlet that is formed in a first bottom section of the housing body and a water-receiving reservoir that is formed within a second bottom section of the housing body that is separate from the first bottom section. The rainwater diverter apparatus also includes a water deflector, which in some embodiments is removably mountable within the housing body. The water deflector can be positioned in either a first deflection position for deflecting rainwater towards the primary outlet and a second deflection position for deflecting rainwater towards the water-receiving reservoir. An underside of the water deflector includes a deflecting lip that is shaped such that the movement of rainwater up the underside of the water deflector is inhibited.
