The invention relates to a carotenoid for use in the treatment or prevention of stress induced conditions, and in particular it relates to the treatment or prevention of a disease mediated by glucocorticoid receptor activity. The invention also relates to a cosmetic method for preventing premature-aging of skin in a subject which comprises administering a carotenoid to said subject. Finally, the invention relates to a method for modulating the activity of a glucocorticoid receptor comprising contacting the receptor with a carotenoid.

Bone mineral content, 25(OH) vitamin D3, or 1,25(OH).sub.2 vitamin D3 in a companion animal can be improved by adjusting the diet of the animal to increase the amount of a compound which positively or negatively modulates the bone mineral content, 25(OH) vitamin D3, or 1,25(OH).sub.2 vitamin D3 or adjusting the diet of the animal to decrease the amount of a compound which positively or negatively modulates the bone mineral content, 25(OH) vitamin D3, or 1,25(OH).sub.2 vitamin D3.

High penetration compositions (HPC) of a parent compound, which are capable of crossing biological barriers with high penetration efficiency. Additionally, the HPCs are capable of reaching areas that their parent drugs or parent drug-related compounds may not be able to access or to render a sufficient concentration at the target areas HPCs of NSAIA, for example, have demonstrated indications such as treating hair loss. A HPC can be administered to a subject through various administration routes, e.g., locally delivered to an action site of a condition with a high concentration or systematically administered to a biological subject and enter the general circulation with a faster rate.

In some aspects, methods and probiotic compositions are provided for the treatment of bone diseases such as, e.g., ostetoporosis. In some embodiments, one or more bacteria from the warm microbiota such as, e.g., Clostridialeace-assimilate, Lactobacillus, Bifidobacteriaceae, Akkermansia, and/or Parabacteroides may be administered to a subject, such as a human subject, to treat the bone disease. In some embodiments, heat may be applied to the subject to promote the development of warm microbiota to treat the bone disease.

In some aspects, methods and probiotic compositions are provided for the treatment of bone diseases such as, e.g., ostetoporosis. In some embodiments, one or more bacteria from the warm microbiota such as, e.g., Clostridialeace-assimilate, Lactobacillus, Bifidobacteriaceae, Akkermansia, and/or Parabacteroides may be administered to a subject, such as a human subject, to treat the bone disease. In some embodiments, heat may be applied to the subject to promote the development of warm microbiota to treat the bone disease.
