A lockout device is mounted on a bike fork to selectively enable or disable the function of a shock absorber installed in the fork. The lockout device includes an activating mechanism, a shifting mechanism and a lockout mechanism. The activating mechanism can activate a rotational motion and is fitted around the shifting mechanism. The lockout mechanism includes a non-deforming unit and a deformable unit, one of which is mounted on the activating mechanism while the other unit is associated with the shifting mechanism. When a handle of the activating mechanism is rotated, the deformable unit is either pressed by the non-deforming unit and enters a locked state, or separated from the non-deforming unit and enters a released state, and accordingly, sets the shifting mechanism to an unmovable state or a movable state, respectively, relative to the activating mechanism, which in turn disables or enables the shock absorber, respectively.

The damper assembly further includes an outer shell, a piston within and moveable relative to the outer shell, a first chamber wall and a second chamber wall within the outer shell at least partially defining a chamber, and a valve within the chamber. The valve includes a first axial end defining a slot and is biased to a first position within the chamber in which the first axial end is spaced from the first chamber wall. The valve is moveable within the chamber from the first position to a second position to passively change a flow resistance of the damper assembly.

In the unlocking state, the coupling arm is rotatable, and in the locking states, the coupling arm is locked; in each of the locking states, the coupling arm is in different locking positions relative to the spindle; and when the coupling arm is in different locking positions, the coupling arm is at different angles to a horizontal plane.

A piston is moveable relative to the housing and a valve is positioned within the first chamber and moveable to passively control fluid flow. An active lock includes a shaft extending into the second chamber with a seal attached to the shaft. The shaft is selectively moveable between an unsealed position in which the seal is spaced from a chamber wall and a flow path is defined between the first fluid passageway and the second fluid passageway, and a sealed position in which the seal contacts and seals against the chamber wall to obstruct the flow path.
