A composite blade includes an airfoil; and a blade root including a straight section from a blade end part being a connection location with the airfoil to an inclination start part between the blade end part and a base end, and a bearing section from the inclination start part to the base end. A laminate of composite layers with reinforced fibers impregnated with resin is provided across the airfoil and the blade root. A metal body is provided on the blade root. The laminate extends along the longitudinal direction in the airfoil and in the straight section, and extends to be inclined away from a center axis in the bearing section. The metal body is provided on both surfaces of the laminate in the blade root, extends along the longitudinal direction in the straight section, and extends to be inclined away from the center axis in the bearing section.

Engine component having support with intermediate layer

Disclosed is a gas turbine engine component, and a method for forming the component. The component includes a first portion, a second portion formed separately from the first portion, and an intermediate layer provided between the first portion and the second portion.

Turbine blade with three-dimensional CMC construction elements

An ceramic matrix composite blade for use in a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The ceramic matrix composite blade includes a root, an airfoil, and a platform located between the root and the airfoil.

Blade

A blade includes an airfoil and a root having diverging walls. The diverging walls are made of a ceramic matrix composite material. A reinforcement element is provided between the diverging walls.

TURBINE WHEEL ASSEMBLY

The present disclosure is related to turbine wheel assemblies for gas turbine engines. Such turbine wheel assemblies may include ceramic matrix composite airfoil components mounted with different types of coupling to a central disc.

Fan blade root

A dovetail root of a fan blade configured for operation within the fan assembly of a gas turbine engine. The dovetail root is imparted with a compressive residual stress layer along the outer faces of the dovetail root preventing crack formation within the dovetail root when the gas turbine engine is in operation. To further protect and structurally enhance the dovetail root, a wear covering is disposed on the dovetail root. The wear covering may consist of a composite laminate layer that is bonded to the metallic core of the dovetail root providing additional cracking protection of the dovetail root when the gas turbine engine is in operation.

ATTACHMENT OF STRUCTURES HAVING DIFFERENT PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Methods of bonding first structures to second structures are disclosed wherein the first and second structures are fabricated materials having different physical characteristics. For example, the first structure may be a composite fan blade and the second structure may be a composite or metallic rotor, both for use in gas turbine engines. The method includes providing the first and second structures and plating or otherwise coating a portion of the first structure with a metal to provide a metal-coated portion. The method includes applying at least one intermediate material onto the metal-coated portion of the first structure. The method further includes bonding the metal-coated portion of the first structure and the intermediate material to the second structure. The bonding is carried out using a relatively low-temperature process, such as liquid phase bonding, including TLP and PTLP bonding. Brazing is also a suitable technique, depending on the materials chosen for the first and second structures.

COATING SYSTEM INCLUDING OXIDE NANOPARTICLES IN OXIDE MATRIX

In some examples, an article may include a substrate and a coating on the substrate. The substrate may include a superalloy, a ceramic, or a ceramic matrix composite. The coating may include a layer comprising a matrix material and a plurality of nanoparticles. The matrix material may include at least one of silica, zirconia, alumina, titania, or chromia, and the plurality of nanoparticles may include nanoparticles including at least one of yttria, zirconia, alumina, or chromia. In some examples, an average diameter of the nanoparticles is less than about 400 nm.

Composite airfoil metal patch

A composite airfoil comprises a leading edge and a trailing edge, a pressure side and a suction side extending between the leading edge and the trailing edge, a tip at a radial outer end of the airfoil, a shank at a radial inner end of the airfoil, a dovetail connected to the shank, and a metal patch disposed between the dovetail and the shank.
