An emission control system includes an emission control device having a plurality of passages to facilitate emission control of an exhaust gas from a vehicle engine. An electromagnetic field generator responds to a control signal by generating an electromagnetic field via a coil to inductively to heat the emission control device, A controller, coupled to the electromagnetic field generator, generates a temperature signal indicating at least one temperature of the emission control device based on a change in impedance in the coil and generates the control signal based on the temperature signal and further based on a reference temperature to control the at least one temperature of the emission control device in accordance with the reference temperature.
Mixer for aftertreatment of exhaust gases
The invention relates to a mixer for a device for selective catalytic reduction of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines. The mixer comprises a structure of mixer elements through which the mixture of exhaust gas and reducing agent is to flow. The mixer elements have an electric current flowing through them for electrical heating due to the electrical resistance thereof. The invention further relates to a device for selective catalytic reaction of exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas pipe leading to a mixer according to the invention and having a reducing agent pipe which is connected to a reservoir for reducing agent and which opens into the exhaust gas pipe in the flow direction upstream of the mixer, and a catalyst in the flow direction downstream of the mixer.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PLASMA-BASED REMEDIATION
A system for exhaust gas remediation includes an engine, a plasma reactor, and a pulse source. The engine emits exhaust gas that includes NO molecules and NOx molecules. The plasma reactor includes an internal chamber that is fluidly connected to the engine such that the exhaust gas flows into the internal chamber. An electrode is disposed within the internal chamber of the plasma reactor. The electrode is electrically coupled to an electrical pulse source. The electrical pulse source delivers electrical pulse to the electrode to form a plasma from the exhaust gas, which removes at least a portion of the NO molecules and at least a portion of the NOx molecules.
Electrochemical reactor
An electrochemical reactor is arranged inside an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine and is provided with a plurality of groups of cells. Each group of cell has a plurality of cells, each cell has an ion conducting solid electrolyte layer, and an anode layer and cathode layer arranged on a surface of the solid electrolyte layer. Each group of cells is configured so that all of the exhaust gas flows into passages defined by cells configuring the group of cells and so that both of the anode layers and the cathode layers are exposed to each passage. The plurality of groups of cells are arranged aligned in a direction of flow of exhaust gas and different groups of cells are connected to a power source in parallel with each other.

The apparatus comprises at least two electrodes arranged in use to provide at least one anode and at least one cathode an electric field thereby being establishable therebetween, the at least two electrodes being separated to allow a fluid to be present between the electrodes in use. At least one of the electrodes has a dielectric portion connected to at least part of said electrode, and a sub-macroscopic structure is connected to at least one of the electrodes or dielectric portion.
Exhaust purification system of internal combustion engine
An exhaust purification system of an internal combustion engine is provided with an electrochemical reactor provided in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, and a voltage control device controlling a voltage supplied to the electrochemical reactor. The electrochemical reactor is provided with an ion conducting solid electrolyte layer and an anode layer and cathode layer placed on the surface of the solid electrolyte layer. The voltage control device is configured to perform short-circuit detection control detecting short-circuiting between the anode layer and the cathode layer, and energizing control applying current between the anode layer and the cathode layer so to energize the short-circuited part when short-circuiting is detected.

The enclosed disclosure relates to vehicle systems in which an engine, a particulate filter fluidly coupled with the engine, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system fluidly coupled with the engine downstream of the particulate filter, an electrical heating device implemented with the particulate filter, and a controller operatively coupled with the engine and the electrical heating device, are implemented. The controller can detect, when the engine is turned off, a condition for turning on the engine, detect a temperature of the particulate filter of the SCR system, activate the electrical heating device in response to the detected temperature being below a lower temperature threshold, and turn on the engine in response to the detected temperature being at or above the lower temperature threshold.
