Multiple Scroll Entry Turbine Turbocharger

A turbocharger arrangement includes a turbine housing with multiple individual cylinder exhaust delivery scrolls, each having an individual inlet to the turbine, formed therein. The turbine housing has one individual cylinder exhaust delivery scroll for each cylinder of an engine to which the turbocharger arrangement is attached. Individual runner exhaust manifolds each connect one exhaust port of one cylinder of the engine to one of the individual cylinder exhaust delivery scrolls. The individual runner exhaust manifolds may be pipes of approximately equal length and/or equal gas flow characteristics. Separating the exhaust pulses from each cylinder with individually runner exhaust manifolds and turbine scrolls allows for enthalpy in the exhaust flow to be harnessed to a greater extent, and allows the system to be tuned for optimum energy recovery from engine cylinder blowdown.

Turboshaft gas turbine engine

The turboshaft engine for a rotorcraft includes a low pressure spool having a low pressure compressor and a low pressure turbine section, and a high pressure spool having a high pressure compressor and a high pressure turbine section. The spools are independently rotatable relative to one another. The low pressure compressor section includes a mixed flow rotor. A set of variable guide vanes (VGVs) are discposed upstream of each of the low pressure and high pressure compressors, the VGVs being configured to be independently operable relative to one another.

Turbine vane airfoil profile

A turbine vane for a gas turbine engine has an airfoil including leading and trailing edges joined by spaced-apart pressure and suction sides to provide an external airfoil surface. The surface is formed in substantial conformance with multiple cross-sectional profiles of the airfoil defined by a set of Cartesian coordinates set forth in Table 1, the Cartesian coordinates provided by an axial coordinate scaled by a local axial chord, a circumferential coordinate scaled by a local axial chord, and a span location.

Endwall cooling scheme

An endwall assembly disposed at one end of a vane assembly may comprise an endwall spar that includes an cold side, an hot side, a leading edge, a trailing edge, and an axis extending from the leading edge to the trailing edge perpendicular to the leading edge. The endwall assembly may include a coversheet on the hot side of the endwall spar and a cooling channel that includes a cooling fluid inlet disposed in the endwall spar, and a cooling fluid outlet. The endwall assembly may include a structure protruding from the cold side of the endwall spar, wherein the structure is located between the cooling fluid inlet and the cooling fluid outlet along the axis; and a cooling fluid source cavity on the cold side of the wall, the cooling fluid source cavity in fluid communication with the cooling fluid channel via the cooling fluid inlet.

Gas turbine engine with active variable turbine cooling

A gas turbine engine includes a compressor section, a combustor section, and a turbine section operably coupled to the compressor section. A primary flow path is defined through the compressor section, the combustor section, and the turbine section. An engine case surrounds the compressor section, the combustor section, and the turbine section. The gas turbine engine also includes a means for providing an active variable cooling flow through a bypass duct external to the engine case to a secondary flow cavity of the turbine section.

GAS TURBINE ENGINE WITH ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN COMPRESSOR

A gas turbine engine includes a turbine section located at an engine central longitudinal axis, a combustor configured to drive rotation of the turbine with combustion products, and a compressor section coupled to the turbine section at the engine central longitudinal axis and driven by the turbine section. An auxiliary compressor is located fluidly between the compressor section and the combustor such that an airflow exiting the compressor section is directed toward the auxiliary compressor.
