Wall of a hot gas component and hot gas component comprising a wall

A wall of a hot gas component includes a hot and a cold-gas sided surface, one film cooling hole extending from an inlet in the cold-gas sided surface to an outlet in the hot-gas sided surface and with a metering section of constant cross-section and a diffuser section extending from the metering section. The diffuser section is bordered by a diffuser bottom and two opposing diffuser side walls, has a leading region, which extends from the metering section to the outlet, lies opposite the diffuser bottom and has a constant cross-section over its entire length corresponding to an elongation of a leading region of the metering section up to the outlet. The diffuser section has two diffuser arms dividing the flow into two subflows, generating delta-vortices, a v-shaped outlet, and a v-shaped outlet opening.

Turbine guide apparatus

A turbine guide apparatus, having multiple guide blades. Each guide blade has a first shroud and a second shroud formed on radial ends of a blade leaf having a first carrier for the guide blades. Each guide blade is fastened to the first carrier via a first shroud projection having a second carrier for the guide blades and is fastened on the second carrier via a second shroud projection. The first shroud projection is inserted into a groove of the first carrier in the radial direction and fastened in this groove via a bolt extending in the axial direction through the projection of the first shroud with radial mobility in this groove. The second shroud projection of the guide blade is fastened in the circumferential and radial direction via a pin extending in the axial direction into the projection of the second shroud and the second carrier.

SEAL FOR COMBUSTION APPARATUS

A seal for sealing a gap in a combustion apparatus of a gas turbine between a first side and an opposite second side. The seal includes a steel strap with a flat shape and a first metal web with a flat shape attached to the steel strap on the first side and a second metal web attached to the steel strap on the second side. Thereby the seal has a seal thickness with at least the steel strap plus the first metal web plus the thickness of the second metal web, wherein the seal thickness is at most 0.2-times of width of the seal. The new seal has an Omega shape of the second metal web, which is therefore attached on both sides with a flat shaped portion to the steel strap.

THROUGH THICKNESS REINFORCEMENT
20220388912 · 2022-12-08 ·

A method for making a ceramic matrix composite component includes densifying a fibrous preform of the component with a ceramic matrix to form an intermediate component; infiltrating a hole in the intermediate component with an infiltrate material comprising a solid and a metallic alloy whose reaction forms a carbide, silicide, boride or combination thereof, heating the infiltrate material to a temperature in excess of a melting point of the metallic alloy; and sequentially cooling regions of the hole starting from an interior end of the hole to the outer surface of the intermediate component to form a solidified through-thickness reinforcement element. The hole extends in a through-thickness direction and is open to an exterior surface of the intermediate component.

A method of assembling a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component is provided. The method includes assessing which portions of the CMC component require relatively high-temperature capability and which portions require at least one of strength, thickness and increased thermal conductivity, making the portions that require the relatively high temperature capability with chemical vapor infiltration (CVI), making the portions that require the at least one of strength, thickness and increased thermal conductivity with melt infiltration (MI) and combining the portions that require the relatively high temperature capability with the CVI and the portions that require the at least one of strength, thickness and increased thermal conductivity with the MI.

SUBSONIC TURBOFAN ENGINES WITH VARIABLE OUTER GUIDE VANES AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
20220389830 · 2022-12-08 ·

Subsonic turbofan engines with variable outer guide vanes (OGVs) and associated methods. A subsonic turbofan engine includes an engine core configured to generate a torque, a fan configured to accelerate an air flow, an engine nacelle, and a plurality of OGVs positioned downstream of the fan. Each OGV is configured to transition among a plurality of OGV configurations defined between and including a nominal configuration and a reduced-drag configuration. The subsonic turbofan engine is configured to operate only at subsonic speeds. In examples, methods of operating a subsonic turbofan engine include transitioning each of a plurality of OGVs from a nominal configuration to a reduced-drag configuration. Transitioning each OGV from the nominal configuration to the reduced-drag configuration is performed while the subsonic engine operates at subsonic speeds.

Ceramic matrix composite vane assembly with compliance features

A vane assembly includes a vane that includes an outer platform, an inner platform, and an airfoil. The outer platform defines an outer boundary of a gas path. The inner platform is spaced apart radially from the outer platform relative to an axis and defines an inner boundary of the gas path. The airfoil extends radially between and interconnects the outer platform and the inner platform.
