The structure includes an elongate body extending from a root to a wingtip and encapsulating at least one interior volume containing an interior fluid exerting an interior fluid pressure that is different from the ambient fluid pressure. A method of retrofitting a structure adapted to traverse a fluid environment exerting an ambient fluid pressure, the structure comprising an elongate body extending from a root to a wingtip and having at least one interior volume is also provided. The method includes sealing the elongate body to encapsulate the at least one interior volume containing an interior fluid; associating at least one valve with the at least one interior volume; and modifying interior fluid content via the at least one valve to produce an interior fluid pressure that is different from the ambient fluid pressure.

A method of fabricating an airfoil fairing for a vane arc segment includes providing a mandrel that necks down through a mandrel neck portion, providing fiber plies around the mandrel to form a tube that defines at least a portion of an airfoil profile of an airfoil section of an airfoil fairing, the fiber plies following the mandrel neck portion such that the tube has a corresponding tube neck portion that necks down to a collar, and removing the mandrel from the tube.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A COMPOSITE PLATFORM FOR AN AIRCRAFT TURBINE ENGINE FAN

A composite platform for an aircraft turbine engine fan includes a wall of elongate shape that is configured to extend between two fan blades. The wall has an aerodynamic external face and an internal face on which is disposed a fixing tab configured to be fixed to a fan disc. A method for manufacturing the composite platform includes the steps of: a) producing a preform by three-dimensionally weaving of fibers, b) unbinding some of the fibers of the preform to detach at least one longitudinal layer of fibers from the rest of the preform, c) inserting a metal reinforcement between this layer and the rest of the preform, and d) injecting a resin into the preform so as to form said wall and secure the reinforcement to this wall.

METHOD OF METAL WORK REPAIR IN HYBRID COMPOSITE BLADES

A method of repairing a composite blade. The composite blade includes a metal work bonded to a composite part through an adhesive layer. The method includes determining a locally damaged portion of the metal work, and removing a bullet portion corresponding to the locally damaged portion. The method further includes detaching, debonding, and removing a first wing portion from the composite part to obtain a first exposed surface portion. The method further includes detaching, debonding, and removing a second wing portion from the composite part to obtain a second exposed surface portion. The method further includes reconditioning the first and second exposed surface portions to obtain first and second reconditioned surface portions, respectively, and applying first and second adhesive layers to the first and second reconditioned surface portions respectively. The method further includes bonding a metal work patch to the first and second adhesive layers.

The base section extends along the span line between the inner end and the outer end. The base section is laterally between the first side section and the second side section. The first side section is connected to the base section and partially forms the first side of the airfoil. The second side section is connected to the base section and partially forms the second side of the airfoil. The sheath at least partially forming an edge of the airfoil. The edge is the leading edge or the trailing edge of the airfoil.

A mass is disposed within each fluid chamber of the one or more fluid chambers. The mass is movable within the glass relative to the airfoil.
