The present disclosure is directed to a system for treating an exhaust gas stream from an engine, which includes a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) located downstream of the engine and adapted for oxidation of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, an injector adapted for the addition of a reductant to the exhaust gas stream located downstream of the DOC, a catalyzed soot filter (CSF) located downstream of the injector, and a selective catalytic reduction component adapted for the oxidation of nitrogen oxides located downstream of the CSF. The CSF is adapted for oxidizing hydrocarbons and includes a selective oxidation catalyst composition on a filter with high selectivity ratio for hydrocarbon oxidation:ammonia oxidation (e.g., at least 0.6).

EXHAUST GAS PURIFICATION DEVICE

An exhaust gas purification device suppresses a pressure loss increase and includes a honeycomb substrate and inflow cell side catalyst layer. The substrate includes a porous partition wall defining several cells extending from an inflow side end surface to an outflow side end surface. The cells include an inflow and outflow cell adjacent across the wall. The inflow cell has an open inflow side end and sealed outflow side end. The outflow cell has a sealed inflow side end and open outflow side end. The catalyst layer is on an inflow cell side surface in an region extending from the inflow side end positioned 10% or more of the partition wall length. At this position, a filled portion of the inflow cell side catalyst layer pores are 40% or less. The pores are present to a depth of 50% of a thickness of the partition wall.

Described are exhaust gas treatment systems for treatment of a gasoline engine exhaust gas stream. The exhaust gas treatment systems comprise an ammonia generating catalyst and an ammonia selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst downstream of the ammonia generating catalyst. The ammonia generating catalyst comprises a NO.sub.x storage component, a refractory metal oxide support, a platinum component, and a palladium component. The ammonia generating catalyst is substantially free of ceria. The platinum and palladium components are present in a platinum to palladium ratio of greater than about 1 to 1.

An exhaust gas control apparatus includes a honeycomb substrate and an inlet cell-side catalyst layer. The honeycomb substrate includes a porous partition wall that defines a plurality of cells extending from an inlet-side end face to an outlet-side end face. The cells include an inlet cell and an outlet cell that are adjacent to each other with the partition wall therebetween. The inlet cell is open at its inlet-side end and is sealed at its outlet-side end. The outlet cell is sealed at its inlet-side end and is open at its outlet-side end. The inlet cell-side catalyst layer is provided on a surface on the inlet cell side of the partition wall and extends from an inlet-side end of the partition wall. Porosity of the inlet cell-side catalyst layer is in a specific range.

A particulate filter disclosed herein includes a wall-flow structure substrate 10 and a wash coat layer 20 held inside a partition 16 of the substrate 10. The wash coat layer 20 includes an inlet layer 22 formed to have predetermined length L.sub.A and thickness T.sub.A from near an end thereof on an exhaust gas inflow side X1, and an outlet layer 24 formed to have predetermined length L.sub.B and thickness T.sub.B from near an end thereof on an exhaust gas outflow side X2. The inlet layer 22 and the outlet layer 24 partially overlap each other. In the particulate filter disclosed herein, the inlet layer 22 contains a precious metal catalyst, while the outlet layer 24 contains substantially no precious metal catalyst. The length L.sub.A of the inlet layer is 50% or more and 75% or less of a total length L of the partition 16. Thus, the particulate filter is capable of achieving both PM collection performance and pressure-drop reduction performance at high levels.
