High Flow and Low NPSHr Horizontal Pump with Priming Module

A horizontal pumping system has a motor, a pump driven by the motor and a priming module. The pump has a discharge on a first end of the pump, a suction end on a second end of the pump, and a plurality of stages between the suction end and the discharge. Each of the plurality of stages includes an impeller and a diffuser that encases the impeller. Each diffuser is an independent pressure vessel. The priming module may be a wet priming module or a dry priming module. The priming module permits the use of the horizontal pumping system in many applications in which the liquid is not naturally present at the pump intake.

Methods and apparatuses for pump sealing during leakage events

A pump leakage mitigation device includes one or more clamp arms on an outer surface of a pump that can be driven by a biasing element to seat against a shaft of the pump to seal or reduce fluid flow through a breakdown of the pump. The biasing element engages only at threshold temperatures, such as those associated with breakdown orifice failure when additional sealing may be necessary. Clamp arms of any number and shape can be used to achieve the desired seal and based on the pump geometry. A sealant surface and/or keeping mechanism are useable with the leakage mitigation device to enhance fluid flow blockage throughout a pump failure transient scenario. Pump leakage mitigation devices are installed on an outside of a variety of different pump types and can thus be installed, actuated, manipulated, disengaged, and/or removed without having to destroy or disassemble the pump.

A slurry seal assembly for use about a rotatable shaft between a process side and an atmosphere side is presented. The slurry seal assembly includes a sleeve, a rotatable seal ring, a stationary seal ring, a floating bushing seal assembly, and a plurality of slots. The sleeve is disposed about and rotatable with the shaft. The rotatable seal ring contacts and is rotatable with the sleeve. The stationary seal ring is arranged to form a sealing interface with the rotatable seal ring. The floating bushing seal assembly is disposed about the sleeve so that an inner annular surface along the floating bushing seal assembly is separated from an outer annular surface along the sleeve by a gap. The slots are disposed along the sleeve within the process side adjacent to the floating bushing seal assembly. The slurry seal assembly is applicable to devices whereby a fluid is movable between an inlet and an outlet.

A device is disclosed including a wear ring made with thermoplastic material formed as a hollow cylinder with an inside diameter and an outside diameter. The hollow cylinder may have multiple holes through at least a portion of the thermoplastic material from the inside diameter towards the outside diameter. The multiple holes may be passages between the inside diameter and the outside diameter that allow fluid under pressure to pass between the inside diameter and the outside diameter through the multiple holes.

Turbomachine

Leakage of a working fluid from a shaft sealing device of a turbomachine which handles a liquid as the working liquid is reduced and also unstable fluid force which acts on a rotor is reduced. For this purpose, the turbomachine has a rotor having an impeller, a bearing which rotatably supports the rotor, a casing which contains the rotor therein and forms a stationary flow passage, and the shaft sealing device which reduces the leakage of the working fluid through a gap part between the casing and the rotor. The working fluid is a liquid. A plurality of axial grooves which are intermittently arranged in axial direction and circumferential direction of the rotor with a land part being interposed are provided in an inner circumferential surface of the shaft sealing device.

A shaft seal device is fixed to a container that separates a high-pressure fluid and a low-pressure fluid from each other, and seals a shaft-penetrated portion of the container through which a rotational shaft extends. This shaft seal device includes: a seal casing having a through-hole through which the rotational shaft extends, the seal casing having a seal chamber which communicates with the through-hole and into which the high-pressure fluid flows; and a disk-shaped seal body which is housed in the seal chamber, the seal body being rotatable together with the rotational shaft and having an annular surface perpendicular to an axis of the rotational shaft. An inner surface of the seal casing, which faces the annular surface of the seal body and defines the seal chamber, is a flat surface perpendicular to the axis of the rotational shaft.
