Microstructure geometry for thermal barrier coatings to mitigate CMAS attack
Thermal barrier coatings and methods to make such coatings present improved resistance to CMAS infiltration. The method for forming a thermal barrier coating includes applying a layer of the thermal barrier coating to a component having a surface, forming a plurality of first channels in the thermal barrier coating, and forming a plurality of second channels in the thermal barrier coating. The first channels extend through a thickness of the thermal barrier coating from an interface with the surface of the component to a free surface opposite the interface. The second channels are disposed between the free surface and the interface and extending lengthwise generally parallel to the free surface of the thermal barrier coating, wherein the thermal barrier coating comprises a material comprising yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) or yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ).

The housing is made of a non-magnetic material. The stator includes a stator iron core and a plurality of windings wound on the stator iron core. The motor further includes a sleeve having a cylindrical main body and a flange extending radially outwards from one end of the main body and fixed to the housing. An annular space is jointly bounded by the sleeve and the housing to accommodate the stator. A part of inner surface of the housing and a part of bottom surface of the flange facing the annular space are coated with a metal coating for electromagnetic wave shielding.
LOW FRICTION, WEAR RESISTANT VARIABLE VANE BUSHING
A variable vane assembly includes a variable vane; a trunnion arranged on one end of the variable vane; a bushing mated to the trunnion to define an interface between the trunnion and the bushing; and a surface modification on at least one of the trunnion and the bushing at the interface, whereby frictional heating at the interface during operation of the assembly is reduced.
Airfoil with improved coating system and methods of forming the same
A coating system for a surface of a superalloy component is provided. The coating system includes a MCrAlY coating on the surface of the superalloy component, where M is Ni, Fe, Co, or a combination thereof. The MCrAlY coating generally has a higher chromium content than the superalloy component. The MCrAlY coating also includes a platinum-group metal aluminide diffusion layer. The MCrAlY coating includes Re, Ta, or a mixture thereof. Methods are also provided for forming a coating system on a surface of a superalloy component.
FLUID PUMP

Apparatus and method for coating workpieces
An apparatus and a method for coating workpieces with thermal barrier coatings. A manipulator shaft is guided here through a duct equipped with telescopic segments into the process chamber. The invention permits a particularly compact configuration of the plant.
Erosion protection coating with screen
The present invention includes an apparatus for protecting an aerodynamic surface from erosion including a screen capable of being applied to a leading edge of the aerodynamic surface; and an erosion protection coating applied to the screen before or after the screen is applied to the leading edge, wherein the erosion protection coating protects the aerodynamic surface from erosion.
METHOD FOR APPLYING A COATING TO A SURFACE OF A MULLITE MATERIAL, MULLITE MATERIAL HAVING A COATING, AND GAS TURBINE COMPONENT
A method for applying a coating 1 to a surface 2 of a mullite material 3 is specified, which comprises pretreating the surface 2 of the mullite material 3 by means of a plasma-chemical process in which molecular hydrogen is excited in such a way that plasma-activated hydrogen is produced S1, and applying an aluminum oxide-containing layer 4 by means of a PVD process to the pretreated surface 2 of the mullite material 3 S2. Furthermore, a mullite material 3 with a coating and a gas turbine component with such a mullite material 3 are specified.
TURBOCHARGER TURBINE WHEELS HAVING AN ALPHA-ALUMINA COATING AND METHODS FOR MANUFACUTRING THE SAME
An alpha-alumina coated turbocharger turbine wheel includes a hub portion, a plurality of blades disposed about the hub portion, each blade of the plurality of blades having a leading edge and a trailing edge, a centerline passing axially through the hub portion, and a back-side wall defined radially between the leading edge of each blade of the plurality of blades and the centerline. The turbocharger turbine wheel is made of a metal alloy and a surface coating layer of alpha-alumina. The surface coating layer of alpha-alumina may be disposed only on the hub portion, the plurality of blades, and a radially-outer portion of the back-side wall. The radially-outer portion is defined between a radial distance from the centerline and the leading edge of each blade of the plurality of blades. Alternatively, the surface coating layer of alpha-alumina may be disposed on the hub portion, the plurality of blades, and an entirety of the back-side wall.
