Systems and methods for controlling a wind turbine
A system and method are provided for controlling a wind turbine of a wind farm. Accordingly, a controller implements a first model to determine a modeled performance parameter for the first wind turbine. The modeled performance parameter is based, at least in part, on an operation of a designated grouping of wind turbines of the plurality of wind turbines, which is exclusive of the first wind turbine. The controller then determines a performance parameter differential for the first wind turbine at multiple sampling intervals. The performance parameter differential is indicative of a difference between the modeled performance parameter and a monitored performance parameter for the first wind turbine. A second model is implemented to determine a predicted performance parameter of the first wind turbine at each of a plurality of setpoint combinations based, at least in part, on the performance parameter differential the first wind turbine. A setpoint combination is then selected based on the predicted performance parameter and an operating state of the first wind turbine is changed based on the setpoint combination.
METHOD FOR OPERATING A WIND FARM
A method for operating a plurality of wind energy installations configured for supplying electric power to an electrical supply system, that each have an aerodynamic rotor with rotor blades and an electrical generator and also operating equipment, is disclosed. The wind energy installations are operated while they are not connected to the electrical supply system, where at least one of the wind energy installations produces electric power and inputs the electric power into a local DC voltage system that connects the wind energy installations if the at least one of the wind energy installations currently produces more power than needed for supplying its own operating equipment. Additionally or alternatively, the operating equipment is supplied totally or in part with power from the local DC voltage system if the at least one of the wind energy installations currently produces less power than needed for supplying its operating equipment.
System and Method for Assessing Farm-Level Performance of a Wind Farm
The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for assessing farm-level performance of a wind farm. The method includes operating the wind farm in a first operational mode and identifying one or more pairs of wind turbines having wake interaction. The method also includes generating a pairwise dataset for the wind turbines pairs. Further, the method includes generating a first wake model based on the pairwise dataset and predicting a first farm-level performance parameter based on the first wake model. The method also includes operating the wind farm in a second operational mode and collecting operational data during the second operational mode. Moreover, the method includes predicting a first farm-level performance parameter for the second operational mode using the first wake model and the operational data from the second operational mode. The method further includes determining a second farm-level performance parameter during the second operational mode. Thus, the method includes determining a difference in the farm-level performance of the wind farm as a function of the first and second farm-level performance parameters.
Wind turbine generator with localized air gap control and a wind turbine having such a generator
A wind turbine component includes an inner member and an outer member disposed relative to the inner member, wherein the inner and outer members move relative to each other. A plain bearing is coupled to one of the inner or outer member and configured to provide a fluid film for maintaining separation of and facilitating relative movement between the inner and outer members. A position adjustment mechanism is coupled to the one of the inner or outer member for selectively moving the plain bearing. A position controller may be operatively coupled to the position adjustment mechanism for controlling the position of the plain bearing. The wind turbine component may be a wind turbine generator with the inner member and outer member corresponding to one of the stator and rotor assemblies. Methods for controlling the generator are also disclosed.
Methods and Systems for Maintaining an Offshore Power Plant Having Airborne Power Generating Craft
A method of maintaining an offshore power plant. A power generating craft is attached to a tow cable on a floating vessel. The floating vessel is moved to an offshore power generating site. The power generating craft is maintained in an airborne state while the floating vessel is moving to the offshore power generating site. The power generating craft is detached from the tow cable and attached to a first end of a tether line at the offshore power generating site. The second end of the tether line is anchored to an underwater floor. The power generating craft is operated in an airborne state.
Methods and Systems for Electrical Isolation in an Offshore Power Generation Plant
A method of generating power. An airborne power generating craft is connected to an anchor using a tether line. The anchor is secured to an underwater floor. Power is generated based on movement of the airborne power generating craft in response to a wind force. The tether line is maintained at a constant length between the airborne power generating craft and the anchor as the airborne power generating craft moves in response to the wind force. The airborne power generating craft is connected to an electrical transmission system through at least part of the tether line. The generated power is transmitted to the electrical transmission system. A condition is sensed in which transmitting power to the electrical transmission system is not desired. The airborne power generating craft is electrically isolated to prevent power from being transmitted from the airborne power generating craft to the electrical transmission system.
Wind farm having a plurality of network feed-in points
A wind farm comprises a plurality of wind turbines connected to a network internal to the wind farm, a network feed-in point in the network internal to the wind farm for feeding electrical power into a supply network, a control device associated with the network feed-in point designed to control the wind turbines feeding power into the supply network by the network feed-in point on the basis of measured values recorded at the network feed-in point, and at least one additional network feed-in point having an additional control device designed to control the wind turbines feeding power into the supply network by the additional network feed-in point on the basis of measured values recorded at the additional network feed-in point, wherein the network internal to the wind farm is designed to variably connect at least one wind turbine to one of the plurality of network feed-in points.
System and method for monitoring and controlling wind turbines within a wind farm
In one aspect, a system for monitoring and controlling the operation of wind turbines located within a wind farm may generally include first and second wind turbines. The first wind turbine may include a first turbine controller configured to monitor an operating parameter(s) associated with the first wind turbine and provide a first control interface for controlling the operation of the first wind turbine. The second wind turbine may include a second turbine controller configured to monitor an operating parameter(s) associated with the second wind turbine and provide a second control interface for controlling the operation of the second wind turbine. The system may also include a secondary computing device coupled to the second turbine controller. The second turbine controller may be configured to provide the secondary computing device access to the first control interface in order to allow the operation of the first wind turbine to be controlled.
