The second attachment member is outside of the container interposed between the valve stem and a container opening. Rotational movement of the valve stem is fixed relative to one or both of the first and second attachment members. In an example, the valve stem comprises one or more surface features that register with one or more surface features of the first and/or second attachment member to thereby fix relative valve stem rotational movement. In an example, the valve stem surface feature is a flat surface that registers with a flat surface of the second attachment member inside diameter.

The present disclosure relates to a variable pressure vessel. The vessel includes a liquid chamber and a gas chamber and a moveable barrier therebetween. The vessel has a volume, a first stroke, and a second stroke. The liquid chamber and the gas chamber each have a variable volume that changes responsive to the first stroke and the second stroke. The gas chamber has an outer wall wherein at least a portion of the outer wall is thermally conductive and allows heat to transfer therethrough. Movement of the moveable barrier between the liquid chamber and the gas chamber causes the volume in the liquid chamber and the volume in the gas chamber to displace each other. The volume in the gas chamber plus the volume in the liquid chamber is generally constant and generally equals the volume in the variable pressure vessel.

A self-contained expandable automatic pressure compensated accumulator system for storing and releasing hydraulic fluid energy for use by subsea equipment having a controller, a pressure source, a bidirectional valve fluidly connected to the pressure source, an expandable multisided vessel fluidly connected to the bidirectional valve having a plurality of axial folds between first and second ends, and a bidirectional port connected to the pressure source. As the plurality of axial folds expand, a contracted volume of pressure expands increasing stored hydraulic fluid energy in the expandable multisided vessel. As the plurality of axial folds contract, the expanded volume reduces, releasing stored hydraulic fluid energy to nearby subsea equipment on demand as changes in hydraulic fluid energy requirements for the subsea equipment changes. Simultaneously, hydrostatic seawater pressure of seawater on the expandable multisided vessel is counteracted with the hydrostatic pressure of fluid inside the expandable multisided vessel.

The present invention is a distributed piston elastomeric accumulator which stores energy when its elastomeric member stretches from its original length in response to the flow of a pressurized fluid. The stored energy is returned when the fluid flow is reversed and the accumulator discharges the fluid as its elastomeric member returns to its original length and moves the piston to its initial position. At least one part of the novelty of the invention is that the accumulator is not subject to radial strain gradients and the accumulator allows for precise pressure and linear position measurements. Accordingly, the invention allows for optimization of the energy strain storage capacity of a given elastomer.
