The holding material includes: a sheet-like main body made of first inorganic fibers having a minor axis in the range of from about 3 to 10 m; and a surface layer which is provided on at least one surface of the main body and contains second inorganic fibers having a minor axis in the range of from about 1 to 15 nm.

A substrate for an exhaust gas treatment unit, particularly for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, includes a substrate body (18) elongated in the substrate longitudinal direction (S). The substrate body (18) is flattened in a flattening direction (A) essentially at right angles to the substrate longitudinal direction (S). A plurality of cells (24), which extend essentially in the substrate longitudinal direction (S) and provide flow ducts, are formed in the substrate body (18). The cells (24) are defined by cell walls (20, 22), which extend essentially in the substrate longitudinal direction (S). The cell walls (20, 22) are disposed at an angle in relation to the flattening direction (A).

COMPRESSION JAW ASSEMBLY UNIT

A compression jaw assembly unit for a compressing device for compressing tubular metal parts includes a compression jaw carrier (17) and a compression jaw (16), provided at the compression jaw carrier (17), with a compressing surface (18) that is oriented essentially facing away from the compression jaw carrier (17) and is curved transversely to a compression jaw longitudinal direction (L.sub.B) in a compression jaw transverse direction (Q.sub.B). The compression jaw (16) includes a fixed compression jaw segment (22), which is fixed to the compression jaw carrier (17) and provides a compressing surface segment (24), and at least one movable compression jaw segment (26, 28) providing a compressing surface segment (30, 32). The at least one movable compressing surface segment (26, 28) can be moved in a direction of movement (B) in relation to the fixed compressing surface segment (22) against the prestressing action of a prestressing device (42).

Mounting mat for pollution control elements

Mat (1) for mounting a pollution control element in a housing, comprising inorganic fibre material. At an edge surface (20) of the mat a plurality of fibres (30) are heat fused to form fusion volumes (90). The average number of fusion volumes per square millimetre of the edge surface is at least 100, and at least 80% of the fusion volumes have a projected size of between 10 m and 100 m.

FLEXIBLE FIBROUS MATERIAL, POLLUTION CONTROL DEVICE, AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME

A flexible fibrous material comprises inorganic fibers and a binder and methods of making the same. The binder comprises at least one of: a first organic polymer having anionic groups and a flocculent, the flocculent comprising a second organic polymer having cationic groups; or a reaction product of the first organic polymer and the flocculent. Flexible fibrous material according to the present invention may be used as components in certain pollution control devices.
