Mattress evaluation system and method
A system for simultaneously measuring the indentation hardness properties, span properties, and resilience properties of a mattress includes a first indentation means and a second indentation means, and means for urging the first indentation means and the second indentation means into the mattress with a predetermined force, and also includes laser means for projecting a laser line configured to map, preferably by photographic triangulation, the amplitude, shape, and time-dependency of the resultant deflection of the mattress surface between the first indentation means and the second indentation means. A method for simultaneously measuring the indentation hardness properties, span properties, and resilience properties of a mattress is also provided.
Apparatus, method, and associated system for testing a pavement material sample
An apparatus for testing paving samples includes a base that includes a paving sample tray about the cabinet and configured for translation relative to the cabinet. A roller is configured for imparting compressive forces to a sample carried by the sample tray. An arm is configured for moving the roller from a stowed position to an in-use position where the roller contacts the sample. A cylinder assembly having a piston therein supplies pressure forces to the arm to move the arm from the stowed position to the in-use position, wherein a depth of travel of the arm is limited by the sample. As the sample is compressed, the depth of travel increases. A measurement device is in communication with the cylinder for determining an amount of travel of the arm to thus determine an amount of compression of the sample.

WOUND ROLL QUALITY INSTRUMENT AND METHOD
This disclosure relates generally to enabling a user to (1) determine the radial stiffness of the outer surface of a winding or wound roll, and (2) when coupled with a winding/contact model results in a virtual instrument allowing the user to explore the residual stresses due to winding in roll-to-roll manufacturing process machines, and (3) allows the user to predict winding defects and hence roll quality based upon the known residual stresses. Wound roll models require the input of a radial modulus of elasticity which is state dependent on interlayer pressure. The hardware of the disclosure can be used to determine this radial modulus and serves to enable the user to (1) use winding/contact models and (2) with measurements made during or after winding enable the user to estimate the winding residual stresses.
Fruit testing device
The invention relates generally to a mechanical device that efficiently measures physical parameters such as compression strength, elasticity, firmness, deformation resistance and the like, on one or a plurality of compressible test objects including fruits, nuts and vegetables, and which operates in a semi-automatic fashion using a rotatable turntable with multiple wells to hold a plurality of test objects in place during measurement using one or more positionable sensors capable of measuring a physical parameter when brought into contact with the test object.

MATTRESS CORE MATERIAL AND BED MATTRESS
A mattress core material includes a plurality of flat cushion bodies stacked in a thickness direction thereof, including at least a first cushion body which becomes an upper part; and a second cushion body which becomes a lower part, the first and second cushion bodies including a three-dimensional filaments-linked structure, each including a high-density upper surface layer having high filament density; a high-density lower surface layer having high filament density; and a low-density elastic layer, a high-density intermediate layer being formed in an intermediate position in the thickness direction of the mattress core material in which the first and second cushion bodies are stacked as upper and lower parts in the thickness direction, respectively, the high-density intermediate layer having a function of distributing a vertically applied compressive stress, along a curvature of an interface between the first and second cushion bodies in the high-density intermediate layer.
GROUND COMPACTOR AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING SUBSTRATE PROPERTIES USING A GROUND COMPACTOR
The present invention proposes a ground compactor with a ground compaction drum rotating about a rotation axis during compaction of a substrate, wherein the ground compaction drum includes a deformation sensor for detection of an elastic deformation of the ground compaction drum in order to determine a degree of stiffness of the substrate.

Apparatus and methods for analysis of reservoir fluids
Methods and apparatus are provided for the measurement of the compressibility of reservoir fluid. A piezoelectric material is coupled to a wall of a fluid chamber. Compressibility is derived from measured pressure changes to the fluid resulting from volumetric changes to the fluid chamber imposed by the mechanical strain of the piezoelectric material resulting from an applied electric field.
