A display apparatus includes an image display panel, a light source device, and a control device. The light source device includes a light source that emits light and a light guide member arranged on the back surface side of the panel as seen from the display surface, receives the light via its side surface with respect to its surface facing the panel, and has divided areas arranged in a direction in which the light travels. Each area includes a light modulation layer brought in a light transmission state or in a light scattering state. The control device brings the layers in the scattering state in respective scattering control periods temporally different from each other. When bringing a light modulation layer in the scattering state, the control device controls the light source device with a drive pattern based on a distance between the side surface and the corresponding area.

The seal encloses the LEDs and the edge of the layer structure, the seal being in contact with the top side and the bottom side of the layer structure and resting against or on the housing frame so the seal seals the layer structure against the housing frame, the housing frame and the layer structure being clamped relative to one another such that the seal is pressed against the top side and the bottom side of the layer structure.

The light pipe structure includes plurality of light pipes in which the light pipes have a lower vertical body portion, an upper horizontal body portion, and a central body portion between the lower vertical body portion and the upper horizontal body portion; and a bracket that connects and supports the light pipes in which the bracket is generally planar. The bracket has broad support regions that connect to a back portion of each of the light pipes and a narrow bridging region between broad support regions in which the support regions are broader than the narrow bridging region in the vertical dimension.

The inventive concepts provides a liquid crystal display having advantages of being capable of simplifying a manufacturing method thereof and minimizing damage to internal components therein by using a bottom chassis in which a flange unit and a receiver of a backlight unit are separated from each other. In accordance with the inventive concepts, the bottom chassis is formed in such a shape so as to be assembled and disassembled. Accordingly, it is possible to securely couple the flange unit to any necessary portions of the receiver, thereby reducing an effort and cost for mold development. Further, a gap between the receiver and the flange unit is formed to provide a predetermined degree of flexibility. Therefore, when the display device is assembled, deformation of the entire bottom chassis caused by deformation of the flange unit may be prevented.

The present invention provides an optical film assembly mounting structure, which includes: a first mold frame (6), a second mold frame (8) arranged on the first mold frame (6), and an optical film assembly (9) arranged between the first and second mold frame (6, 8). The first mold frame (6) carries the optical film assembly (9) thereon and the second mold frame (8) is positioned on and presses down the optical film assembly (9) so as to achieve secure mounting of the optical film assembly (9). The first mold frame (6) includes an inclined first upper surface (61). The second mold frame (8) includes a first bottom surface (81) and a second bottom surface (83) connected to the first bottom surface and having an inclination angle identical to that of the first upper surface (61). The optical film assembly (9) is positioned on the first upper surface (61) and the first and second bottom surfaces (81, 83) are positioned on and press down the optical film assembly (9).
