DEVICE FOR THE IMPROVED COLLECTION OF CORD BLOOD FROM AN UMBILICAL CORD
A device and method for the collection of blood from an umbilical cord. Unlike other devices traditionally used which make use of a needle for insertion through the cord tissue and into the umbilical vein, the present device includes a long probe to be inserted into the umbilical vein after the umbilical cord is cut. The device additionally includes a fastening component to be tied around the umbilical cord under the position of the head of the device once inserted to fasten it in place. The device has a wide aperture for faster flow of the blood at a constantly tapered angle to reduce shear forces that may damage cells. Additionally, the head of the device is angled for easy insertion into the umbilical vein and is ribbed to resist falling out of the vein.
Medical device for the preparation of a concentrate of cells
A medical device for the separation of a concentrate enriched with cells from a biological fluid, in particular a concentrate of stromal or stem cells from medullar aspirate or venous blood, comprises: a treatment container for receiving and treating the biological fluid for the purposes of its separation into a number of fractions; a first collection container, for receiving a first fraction of the fluid, in particular a fraction poor in said cells; a second collection container, for receiving a second concentrated fraction of the fluid enriched with said cells; a deviator valve having a first way connected or prearranged for connection to the treatment container, a second way connected or prearranged for connection to the first collection container, and a third way connected or prearranged for connection to the second collection container; a first line for connection of the treatment container to the first way of the deviator valve, a second line for connection of the first collection container to the second way of the deviator valve, and a third line for connection of the second collection container with the third way of the deviator valve. The treatment container is a syringe container with a plunger having a plunger stem associated in a releasable way to a corresponding plunger head, and the first connection line comprises a first transparent tube, in particular a flexible transparent tube, and at least one of the second and third connection lines preferably comprises a second flexible tube. At least one connection line, or each connection line, further comprises: at least one respective hydraulic connector, for separable connection of a corresponding tube to the corresponding container and/or to the corresponding way of the deviator valve; and at least one automatic-closing or one-way valve.
Blood Sample Management Using Open Cell Foam
A specimen transfer device adapted to receive a blood sample is disclosed. The specimen transfer device includes a housing and an actuation member. A deformable material is disposed within the housing and is deformable from an initial position in which the material is adapted to hold the sample to a deformed position in which at least a portion of the sample is released from the material. A viscoelastic member is disposed within the housing between the material and the housing and between the material and the actuation member. The viscoelastic member is engaged with the actuation member and the material such that movement of the actuation member from a first position to a second position deforms the material from the initial position to the deformed position.

Dermal patch for collecting a physiological sample
A dermal patch for collecting a physiological sample includes a housing with a collection chamber, a sample channel and a pin within a receptacle of the housing. The sample channel is configured to direct a physiological sample drawn from a subject to the collection chamber. The pin is removably positioned within the receptacle and is configured to move from an undeployed position to a deployed position. The pin is configured to seal the receptacle when in the undeployed position and is further configured to facilitate generation of negative pressure in the sample channel when the pin is moved from the undeployed to the deployed position.
Blood sampling device and blood bag system
A blood sampling device (10) configuring a blood bag system (12) includes: a hollow needle (80) that can penetrate through a rubber plug (202) of a blood sampling tube (200) inserted into a blood sampling holder (78); a hub (76) that includes a needle supporting unit (90) for supporting a base end side of the hollow needle (80) and to which the blood sampling holder (78) is rotatably attached; a needle cover (82) made of rubber that is externally fitted to the needle supporting unit (90) while covering a tip side of the hollow needle (80); and a cap (84) arranged on the needle supporting unit (90) in such a manner that the cap (84) can come into contact with the needle cover (82) and is independent of the blood sampling holder (78).
METHODS FOR DELIVERY OF BODILY FLUIDS ONTO A FIBROUS SUBSTRATE
The disclosed apparatus, systems and methods relate to devices, systems and methods for the collection of bodily fluids. The collector can make use of microfluidic networks connected to collection sites on the skin of a subject to gather and shuttle blood into a removable cartridge. The collected fluid is supplied to substrate for drying, storage and transport.
FLUID COLLECTION DEVICE
Disclosed embodiments relate to a collection device for bodily fluids comprising a tubular material with a first end and second end. A portion of the first end is configured to be secured to a user and the tubular material may be folded over itself to form a first sheath and a second sheath. In some applications, the fluid collection devices described may be secured to a user using interlocking loops.
Lancet for Use with a Dermal Patch System
A dermal patch system includes a lancet with three needles and a cartridge that is configured to attach to the skin of a subject. The lancet is configured automatically move the three needles from an undeployed position to a deployed position when the lancet engages with the cartridge. The three needles are configured to puncture the skin of the subject to draw a physiological sample when in the deployed position.
Laser system for blood or tissue assessment
A laser system for blood assessment is provided. Another aspect of a laser system includes a container within which is blood, a laser operable to emit a laser beam at the container to vibrate the blood, a detector operable to detect a vibrational characteristic of the blood, a controller connected to the detector operable to automatically determine a characteristic of the blood based at least in part on the vibrational characteristic detected by the detector, and a display operable to indicate a determination result from the controller. Another aspect of the present blood or tissue assessment laser system includes a laser, a power supply, a detector, a controller and an electronic display, all contained within or coupled to a handheld and portable housing.
