DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TESTING FOR DEGENERATIVE DISORDERS OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
20200015733 · 2020-01-16 ·

The present system is directed in various embodiments to devices, systems and methods for detection, evaluation and/or monitoring olfactory dysfunction by measuring and determining the patient's olfactory detection threshold for the left and the right nostril. In some cases, the present invention relates to devices, systems and methods for detecting an asymmetric differential in a patient's relative olfactory detection and/or identification threshold (left vs right nostril) which, when present, may be used as a device to detect, diagnose and/or monitor olfactory deterioration resulting from Alzheimer's disease, and/or the efficacy of treatment regimens therefor over time. Alternatively, general olfactory dysfunction may be evaluated and/or monitored without regard to the individual nostril's performance.

Device and method of using volatile organic compounds that affect mood, emotion or a physiologic state

The present invention includes an apparatus and method for aiding mood, emotion, or physiological state comprising: a substrate that is capable of capturing or absorbing one or more organic compounds from a subject having a first physiologic or emotional state at a first time; and an element that is capable of controlling the capture of the one or more organic compounds at a first time, or the release of the one or more organic compounds from the substrate at a second time, wherein exposure to an effective amount of the organic compounds changes the mood, emotion, or physiological state of the subject.

fMRI method for determining brain activation patterns in response to odor elicited feelings

Described herein is a method of using functional MRI (fMRI) for determining brain activation patterns for a group of subjects in response to different odor-elicited feelings (i.e., conscious emotions). A method for preparing a perfume by using the method of the present invention and a consumer product including said perfume are also described herein.

A system for monitoring at least one characteristic of biological material of an individual includes a wearable product. The wearable product includes an outer surface and a skin contact surface defining an internal area. An analysis portal is disposed in the internal area, and includes a sensing portion and an investigation portion. The sensing portion has at least one sensor, and the investigation portion that includes a computing device having a health screener. The sensing portion of the analysis portal comes into contact with a biological material of the individual, and the health screener is configured to determine at least one characteristic of the biological material. The computing device is communicatively coupled to the sensors and the display.

Configurable system for evaluating stimulus sensitivity of a subject and method of use therefor

A configurable system is used to evaluate stimulus sensitivity of a subject. An action channel provides a stimulus to the subject and a reaction channel receives a response from the subject. A signal pathway is connected to the action channel and to the reaction channel. A controller establishes loops within the signal pathway. Loop types include a transduction loop including the action channel and forming a path terminating in the signal pathway, and a channel loop including the action channel and terminating at a reference unit. Other possible loop types include an interface loop including the action channel, the reaction channel and the reference unit having an initial parameter value, and an adaptive loop including the action channel, the reaction channel and the reference unit whose parameter value is adapted based on the response from the subject. A method using the system is also described.

Method for screening a patient for alzheimer's disease

The present system is directed in various embodiments to devices, systems and methods for detection, evaluation and/or monitoring olfactory dysfunction by measuring and determining the patient's olfactory detection threshold for the left and the right nostril. More specifically, the present invention relates to devices, systems and methods for detecting an asymmetric differential in a patient's olfactory detection threshold (left vs right nostril) which, when present, may be used as a tool to screen, detect, diagnose and/or monitor relative olfactory deterioration resulting from Alzheimer's disease. A preferred embodiment comprises cascading aromas by serially administering more than one pure odorant to the patient's nostrils, left vs right, with measurement of the time, or numbers of breaths, required to cognitively notice the pure odorants' presence.

Olfactory test systems and methods

Methods, devices and systems for evaluating olfactory function are configured to: electronically estimate a user-specific odorant detection threshold sensitivity threshold using at least one target stimulus odorant delivered to a nose of a user; flowably deliver a plurality of different target stimulus odorants to the nose of the user with defined concentrations of the different target stimulus odorants based, at least in part, on the estimated user-specific odorant detection sensitivity threshold; and evaluate olfactory function of the user based on the user's response to the delivered different target stimulus odorants.
