Quantifying grip strength and characterizing movement idioms
A method includes measuring, using at least one sensor, strain on a nail plate of a subject, wherein the at least one sensor outputs a data stream corresponding to the measuring, communicating the data stream to a receiver, and interpreting, by the receiver, the data stream to determine a parameter of interest of the subject.
Evaluating a condition of a person
A computer-implemented method is for evaluating a condition of a person. The method includes determining at least one characteristic of a first facial expression of at least a mouth of the person, at a first time, based at least on a first image previously captured; determining at least one characteristic of a second facial expression of at least a mouth of a person, at a second time, based at least on a second image previously captured, the first facial expression and the second facial expression being of a same first type of facial expression; determining at least one difference between the at least one characteristic of the first facial expression determined and the at least one characteristic of the second facial expression determined; and generating an output signal indicating the condition of the person based at least on the at least one difference determined.
System and method for treating inflammation
Described is a low voltage, pulsed electrical stimulation device for reducing inflammation in a subject, which can be useful in the treatment of concussions, traumatic brain injury, cancer, and so forth.
Systems and methods for assessing the effectiveness of a therapy including a drug regimen using an implantable medical device
Systems and methods rely on feedback from an active medical device or devices (e.g., neurostimulator coupled to sensing and stimulation elements such as electrodes) to assess the effectiveness of a patient's drug regimen. Such reliance may include analyzing characteristics in physiological data acquired by the medical device(s), for example, in the form of responses evoked from the patient by electrical stimulation waveforms. Systems and methods further involved adjusting one or more parameters according to which a combination therapy consisting of at least a drug regimen and an electrical stimulation therapy are delivered to a patient, in an effort to optimize the therapeutic effect of the combination. The adjustments may be automatically by one or more implanted or external hosts working together or alone, and/or with the input of a physician.
METHOD FOR EARLY PREDICTION OF NEURODEGENERATIVE DECLINE
The present invention relates to a method for predicting neurodegenerative decline and/or its severity for a patient, especially of cognitive impairment (CI). Strokes and Parkinson's disease are frequently associated with occurrence of long-term cognitive impairment or dementia with still incompletely resolved mechanisms. The discovery of diagnostic and predictive biomarkers thus remains a major challenge. The method of the invention uses radiomics corresponding to texture features extracted from a plurality of previously-acquired medical brain images and correlated with previously-acquired clinical and/or biological data. A classifier is trained beforehand for learning these radiomics, and then operated on radiomics computed from at least one brain image of a patient to generate a score representative of its risks of neurodegenerative decline. By applying this method on a cohort of 160 MCI and non-MCI patients, the inventors show that MCI patients could be early predicted with a mean accuracy of 88%. In the same way, the method was able to discriminate very early stages of cognitive decline in a Parkinson's disease population of 100 patients.
System and method for non-invasive and non-contact measurement in early therapeutic intervention
A system and method for non-invasive and/or non-contact measurement of a subject's tremor in the context of therapeutic intervention is presented. The system includes a memory, a communications interface, a sensor to measure a signal associated with position or motion of an extremity of the subject, and a processor. The processor is configured to receive the signal from the sensor. The processor is further configured to communicate, via the communications interface, the signal, login credentials, and position or motion data to a remote server coupled to a remote electronic health record database. The remote server is configured to receive the signal and perform an analysis that quantifies a severity of tremor based on the position or motion signals of the subject. The processor is configured to receive the analysis that quantified the severity of tremor and cause the quantified severity of tremor to be displayed via a display device.
Method and apparatus for assisting spasticity and clonus evaluation using inertial sensor
Provided is a method and apparatus for assisting spasticity and clonus evaluation using an inertia sensor, the apparatus including an acquirer configured to acquire a measured value from an inertia sensor attached to an object, a calculator configured to calculate an angle of a joint of the object based on the measured value, and a processor configured to evaluate a spasticity and a clonus based on the angle of the joint.
MULTI-SENSOR BASED HMI/AI-BASED SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE
A system and method for diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of patients with neurological disease from a plurality of sensors, and in particular, to such a system, method and apparatus for analyzing data from a plurality of sensors with an AI (artificial intelligence) algorithm.
METHOD OF DETECTION, PROGNOSTICATION, AND MONITORING OF NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS
Fixational eye movement may be analyzed to determine one or more characteristics thereof. Exemplary characteristics include measurements of microsaccade and drift measurement. These measurements may be correlated to a value for a diagnostic indicator for a neurological disorder or disease. These correlations may be used to diagnose, monitor, and prognosticate neurological disorders without administration of traditionally used neurological function tests or analysis of biological samples by which the diagnostic indicators are typically determined.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CHARACTERIZATION OF JOINTS
A system, method and device for characterising a joint between a first body region and a second body region is disclosed. The system may comprise a reference portion configured to be coupled to the first body region, a movable portion configured to be coupled to the second body region and a movement source configured to move the movable portion relative to the reference portion, such as in a direction of the joint. A set of one or more sensors may collect a set of one or more measurements related to the movement between the reference portion and the movable portion, for example to determine a force between the movable portion and the body region coupled thereto, and/or a power consumed by the movement source. The measurements may be used to characterise the joint, such as by determining a rigidity of the joint.
