SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF IV INFILTRATION DETECTION

As an IV infiltration occurs and fluid leaks into surrounding tissues, several physiological changes are expected locally. The systems and methods described herein provide a scalable automated IV infiltration detection device to provide medical staff an early warning of a possible infiltration such that they can respond accordingly. The systems and methods capture the physiological state of the user at or around a peripheral catheter insertion site by incorporating one or more modalities of wearable sensing, processing the data collected from these wearable sensors, detecting the presence of extravascular fluid, and providing an indication to a medical professional.

SKIN ASSESSMENT USING IMAGE FUSION

Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for assessing the texture of skin using images thereof. In exemplary embodiments, a texture map of an area of skin is generated from a combination of a parallel-polarized image and a cross-polarized image of the area of skin. The texture map is then flattened to remove the underlying curvature of the skin. A texture roughness metric is then generated based on the flattened texture map. An image of the texture map and the metric can be displayed to provide visual and alphanumeric representations of the texture of skin, thereby facilitating the comparison of baseline and follow-up images of the skin, such as those taken before and after treatment.

DETECTION OF PARALYSIS, WEAKNESS AND/OR NUMBNESS IN A PART OF A BODY OF A SUBJECT

There is provided a system (100) for detecting paralysis, weakness or numbness. A processor (102) acquires data obtained by a sensor (106) of a personal care device (104) used by a subject on a first part of their body and compares this data to reference data obtained by the sensor used by the subject on a second part of their body to determine whether the acquired data comprises an abnormality. The acquired data is indicative of a manner in which the subject used the device on the first part and/or a physiological property of that part. The reference data is indicative of a manner in which the subject used the device on the second part and/or a physiological property of that part. The processor detects paralysis, weakness or numbness in the first or a third part of the body of the subject when the acquired data comprises an abnormality.

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and medical devices for harmonizing data from a plurality of non-invasive sensors are described. A physiological parameter can be determined by harmonizing data between two or more different types of non-invasive physiological sensors interrogating the same or proximate measurement sites. Data from one or more first non-invasive sensors can be utilized to identify one or more variables that are useful in one or more calculations associated with data from one or more second non-invasive sensors. Data from one or more first non-invasive sensors can be utilized to calibrate one or more second non-invasive sensors. Non-invasive sensors can include, but are not limited to, an optical coherence tomography (OCT) sensor, a bio-impedance sensor, a tissue dielectric constant sensor, a plethysmograph sensor, or a Raman spectrometer.

OPTICAL PALPATION DEVICE AND METHOD FOR EVALUATING A MECHANICAL PROPERTY OF A SAMPLE MATERIAL

The present disclosure provides an optical palpation device for evaluating a mechanical property of a sample material. The device comprises a body having a sensing portion and a sensing layer positioned at the sensing portion of the body and having a sensing surface positioned for direct or indirect contact with a surface area of the sample material. The sensing layer is deformable and has a predetermined deformation-dependent optical property. The device further comprises a light detector positioned to detect light transmitted through at least a portion of the sensing layer. The optical palpation device is arranged such that, when the sensing surface of the sensing layer is in direct or indirect contact with the surface area of the sample material and a pressure is applied through both the sensing layer and at least a portion of the surface area of the sample material, because of the predetermined deformation or pressure-dependent optical property of the sensing layer the mechanical property of the sample material is measurable by detecting the light that transmitted through at least a portion of the sensing layer.
