A plasma surgery apparatus includes an HF generator for generating an HF activation signal, a gas source for providing a plasma gas, and a plasma applicator having a channel which opens out at a distal end of the applicator and through which the plasma gas can flow. The apparatus also includes an HF electrode that is electrically connected to the HF generator. When the HF electrode is supplied with the HF activation signal, a plasma is provided originating from the distal end of the applicator. The apparatus also includes a control unit and a flow regulator for regulating a flow rate the plasma gas in the channel. The control unit receives or requests an operating variable of the HF generator and, according to a saved functional relationship, controls the flow regulator so that the flow rate of the plasma gas is correlated with a detected value of the operating variable.

The modular microwave ablation system of the present disclosure includes a microwave instrument, a microwave generator, and one or more auxiliary modules that include circuitry for performing functions related to the operation of the microwave generator. The one or more auxiliary modules are removably connected to the microwave generator. The microwave generator includes a microwave signal generator that generates a microwave signal; a microwave generator controller in communication with the microwave signal generator; one or more terminals that connect to the one or more auxiliary modules, respectively; and a power supply and/or a power distribution module coupled to the microwave signal generator, the microwave generator controller, and the one or more terminals. The one or more terminals provide (1) power from the power supply and/or power distribution module to the one or more respective auxiliary modules and (2) communication signals to and from the one or more respective auxiliary modules.

An electrosurgical system for performing an electrosurgical procedure is provided and includes an electrosurgical generator and a calibration computer system. The electrosurgical generator includes one or more processors and a measurement module including one or more log amps that are in operative communication with the processor. The calibration computer system configured to couple to a measurement device and is configured to measure parameters of an output signal generated by the electrosurgical generator. The calibration computer system is configured to compile the measured parameters into one or more data look-up tables and couple to the electrosurgical generator for transferring the data look-up table(s) to memory of the electrosurgical generator. The microprocessor is configured to receive an output from the log amp(s) and access the data look-up table(s) from memory to execute one or more control algorithms for controlling an output of the electrosurgical generator.

The impedance measuring circuit is configured to drive currents between the at least one catheter electrode, the first return patch electrode, and the second return patch electrode, detect, using a voltage at the at least one catheter electrode as a reference voltage, voltages generated in response to the driven currents, and measure impedances based on the driven currents and the detected voltages.

The present invention relates to systems for use for radio frequency ablation. The systems can include one or more of an ablation tool, power source for use with the ablation tool and a backstop for use in conjunction with the ablation tool during surgical procedures. Preferred ablation tools comprise a series of three or more blade-shaped electrodes disposed in a linear, curved, curvilinear or circular array. The backstops are useful for reducing direct physical and thermal heat transfer injuries to the patient or surgeon during procedures using radiofrequency (RF) ablation devices.

The electrosurgical generator further includes a controller coupled to the RF amplifier and the plurality of sensors. The electrosurgical may be further configured to determine a power level based on the sensed voltage and the sensed current, determine an efficiency of the electrosurgical generator, and insert a predetermined integer number of off cycles when the efficiency of the electrosurgical generator reaches a threshold power efficiency.
