A colorimetric sensor for detecting bacteria and/or includes one or more layers having a photonic crystal structure a functional layer comprising a nanomaterial capable of generating bacteria- and/or viruses-bioresponsive surface plasmon overlapping the one or more layers having the photonic crystal structure. The bacteria- and/or viruses-bioresponsive nanomaterial of the functional layer is doped with proteinic substances or antibodies acting as virus receptors, or the colorimetric sensor comprises a receptor layer comprising proteinic substances or antibodies acting as virus receptors. The functional layer and receptor layer overlap each other. Alternatively, or in addition to, the colorimetric sensor comprises a plasmonic nanostructured layer comprising nanostructures such to generate plasmonic colors, overlapping the one or more layers having the photonic crystal structure.

Solid-state integrated real-time optical monitoring of biochemical assays

The disclosed technology includes a planar device for performing multiple biochemical assays at the same time, or nearly the same time. Each assay may include a biosample including a biochemical, enzyme, DNA, and/or any other biochemical or biological sample. Each assay may include one or more tags including dyes and/or other chemicals/reagents whose optical characteristics change based on chemical characteristics of the biological sample being tested. Each assay may be optically pumped to cause one or more of luminescence, phosphorescence, or fluorescence of the assay that may be detected by one or more optical detectors. For example, an assay may include two tags and a biosample. Each tag may be pumped by different wavelengths of light and may produce different wavelengths of light that is filtered and detected by one or more detectors. The pump wavelengths may be different from one another and different from the produced wavelengths.

CHROMATOGRAPHIC STRIP SUPPORT TOOL AND METHOD FOR USING SAME

A chromatographic strip support tool (except one that includes a chromatographic strip) is provided. The chromatographic strip support tool includes a support surface that is continuous and on which the chromatographic strip can be placed, a projected portion formed on the support surface and having a first abutting portion that can abut against an extremity of the chromatographic strip placed on the support surface, the extremity being present at one end side of the chromatographic strip, and a display section formed on the support surface and displaying a detection item corresponding to a predetermined location of the chromatographic strip with the chromatographic strip being placed on the support surface in a manner that the extremity of the chromatographic strip abuts against the first abutting portion.

Lateral Flow Test Kits

A lateral flow test kit includes a cassette and a swab. The cassette comprises a vial of liquid closed by seal; a test strip; a passage leading from the exterior of the cassette to the vial; and a conduit communicating between the vial and the test strip. The swab can be inserted along the passage to cause a tip of the swab to enter the vial and release liquid from the vial. The liquid flows past a head of the swab to extract a sample and deliver it through the conduit 34 to the test strip. The passage may comprise an obstruction, which requires the user to push the swab past it with a force sufficient to penetrate the seal. The obstruction may also prevent removal of the used swab from the cassette. A distal end of the passage may be curved to deflect the tip of the swab towards the seal at a more favourable angle.

NEUTRALIZING ANTIBODY IMMUNOASSAYS

The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for detecting the presence of neutralizing antibodies in a sample. Unlike conventional assays, the methods provided herein do not require the use of live virus or virus pseudoparticles to identify neutralizing antibodies.
