FULL COLOR DISPLAY SYSTEMS AND CALIBRATION METHODS THEREOF
A display system includes a first die configured to emit light of a first color, a second die configured to emit light of a second color and a third die configured to emit light of a third color. The display system also includes a lens system and an optical waveguide system. The optical waveguide system includes a first grating portion configured to couple in an incident light to the optical waveguide and a second grating portion configured to couple out a transmitting light from the optical waveguide. The first die, the second die and the third die are contained in one package. The lens system is arranged between the package and the optical waveguide system, and is configured to collimate the light of the first color, the light of the second color and the light of the third color onto the first grating portion of the optical waveguide system.
STATIC-IMAGE AUGMENTED PRIVACY DISPLAY, MODE-SWITCHABLE PRIVACY DISPLAY SYSTEM, AND METHOD
A static-image augmented privacy display, mode-switchable privacy display system, and method provide a private image to a first view zone and a static image to a second view zone. The static-image augmented privacy display includes a privacy backlight configured to provide directional emitted light to the first view zone and an array of light valves configured to modulate the directional emitted light to provide a private image within the first view zone. The static-image augmented privacy display also includes a static display layer configured to provide a static image in a second view zone. The mode-switchable privacy display includes a broad-angle backlight configured to provide broad-angle emitted light to both a first view zone and a second view zone during a shared mode, a shared image being provided by modulation of the broad-angle emitted light using the light valve array.

Provided is an image sensor lighting unit including at least one light guide extending in a main scanning direction; a first light source group facing a first end surface of at least two end surfaces of the at least one light guide in the main scanning direction; and a second light source group facing a second end surface of the at least two end surfaces. The first light source group includes a first light source that emits light having a predetermined wavelength band. The second light source group includes a second light source that emits light having the wavelength band. An X-coordinate of the first light source in a corresponding XY-coordinate system is equal in absolute value to an X-coordinate of the second light source in a corresponding XY-coordinate system, with the at least one light guide viewed from the first end surface side in the main scanning direction.
CASCADED EYEBOX EXPANSION IN EXTENDED REALITY IMAGE PROJECTION DEVICES
An image projection system includes a cascaded waveguide system including a first waveguide and a second waveguide arranged downstream along a transmission path from the first waveguide. The first waveguide includes a first output structure and is configured to receive a light beam having a first beam width and output a first expanded light beam at the first output structure, wherein the first expanded light beam has a second beam width greater than the first beam width. The second waveguide includes a second output structure and is configured to receive the first expanded light beam from the first waveguide and output the first expanded light beam multiple times from the second output structure as a plurality of output light beams. Each of the plurality of output light beams is output from a different area of the second output structure along a propagation direction of the second waveguide.

The invention relates to a function display (1) for selectively displaying several symbols representing one switching function, respectively, and/or at least two switching states, respectively, comprising: a light guide stack which, given an attachment of the function display (1) as intended, forms a display surface (8) facing towards the observer (B); wherein the light guide stack is formed from at least two transparent or translucent, planar light guides (2, 3) arranged in an overlaid manner in a stacking direction, which are arranged so as to be spaced apart by a transparent or translucent layer consisting of a material that is optically thinner compared to the adjacent light guides (2, 3), preferably an air gap (14), so that the light guides (2, 3) each have a main surface (H) facing towards the observer (B) and a main surface (H′) facing away from the observer (B), and, in at least one light guide (2), the main surface (H′) facing away from the observer (B) faces towards a light guide (3) which is most closely adjacent in the opposite direction to the stacking direction;
at least one light source (5, 5′) per light guide (2, 3), which is arranged such that in each case, its light (L, L′), via an end face (11) of an associated light guide (2, 3) facing towards the light source (5, 5′), is coupled into the respective light guide (2, 3); wherein, further, at least one microstructured symbol area (12a, 12b) provided in or on the light guide (2, 3) is provided for each light guide (2, 3), which is configured, if the light source (5, 5′) is respectively activated, to be visible, illuminated by the light (L, L′) coupled into the light guide (2, 3), to the observer (B); a circuit board (7) on which the several light sources (5, 5′) are arranged and fixed; a panel (6) fixed to the light guide stack by substance-to-substance connection and/or non-positively and/or positively, to which the circuit board (7) is fixed while resting against a mounting surface (15), wherein two light sources (5′) of the circuit board serve as an alignment aid in attaching the circuit board (7) and the panel (6); and an associated assembly method.
LED ILLUMINATED WAVEGUIDE PROJECTOR DISPLAY
There is provided a projection display (200), and a method for illuminating a projection display (200). The projection display (200) comprising a waveguide (2) comprising an input grating (4) having a plurality of linear diffractive features (6), the input grating (4) configured to couple in light into the waveguide (2), and an array of LEDs configured to form an illumination pupil which is optically relayed as an input pupil (8) onto the input grating (4), such that at the input grating (4) the input pupil (8) has a shape that is larger in a direction parallel to the linear diffractive features (6) than in a direction perpendicular to the linear diffractive features (6).
Spatial light modulator displays with divergence correction lens
An optical device includes a spatial light modulator configured to project image light, a diffractive lens, and a polarization-selective reflector. The spatial light modulator defines an optical axis. The diffractive lens is positioned to receive the image light from the spatial light modulator. The polarization-selective reflector is positioned to receive the image light from the diffractive lens. The polarization-selective reflector having a polarization-selective reflective surface in an orientation that is non-perpendicular to the optical axis of the spatial light modulator.
WAVEGUIDE DISPLAY ASSEMBLY
A waveguide display assembly comprises a waveguide, including an in-coupling grating configured to in-couple light of a first wavelength band emitted by a light source into the waveguide, and cause propagation of the light of the first wavelength band through the waveguide via total internal reflection. An out-coupling grating is configured to out-couple the light of the first wavelength band from the waveguide and toward a user eye. One or more diffractive gratings are disposed along an optical path between the in-coupling grating and the out-coupling grating, the one or more diffractive gratings configured to diffract light outside the first wavelength band out of the waveguide and away from the user eye.
Systems and methods for manipulating light from ambient light sources
An optical device includes variable optical material that alters at least one of: incident ambient light, spectral content of incident ambient light or direction of incident ambient light through the optical device in response to a stimulus provided by the device. The device can sense intensity and/or spectral characteristics of ambient light and provide appropriate stimulus to various portions of the optical device to activate the variable optical material and alter at least one of: incident ambient light, spectral content of incident ambient light or direction of incident ambient light.
IMAGE LIGHT GUIDE WITH CIRCULAR POLARIZER
An imaging apparatus for conveying a virtual image including a waveguide having first and second surfaces. An in-coupling diffractive optic and an out-coupling diffractive optic arranged along one of the first and second surfaces, wherein the in-coupling diffractive optic is operable to direct image-bearing light beams into the waveguide for propagation by total internal reflection, and wherein the out-coupling diffractive optic is operable to direct at least a portion of the image-bearing light beams from the waveguide through the second surface toward an eyebox. An at least partially transparent outer cover located adjacent to the first surface, and a circular polarizer arranged between the waveguide and the outer cover, wherein the circular polarizer is operable to circularly polarize at least a portion of image-bearing light beams transmitted through the first surface and to prevent at least a portion of image-bearing light beams transmitted through the first surface from reentering the waveguide as a result of reflection from the outer cover.
