A system and method are directed towards providing non-requested content to a mobile terminal based on characteristics of, and tracked usage of the mobile terminal to request content through an online portal service, which provides access to content in multiple subject areas. A mobile user profile is created from the characteristics and patterns of the tracked usage. The tracked usage information includes the time, location, frequency at which the content was requested. Based on the mobile user profile information, content related to previously requested content is provided to the mobile terminal upon a trigger that is related to the requested content. The trigger event may include the mobile terminal returning to a location from which certain content was previously requested. The non-requested content may further be based on a related general user profile that indicates usage of an alternate electronic device to access content through the portal.

Disclosed is an advertising device which is installed at the top of a bus running a route. The disclosed advertising device displays an optimized advertisement according to a position of the bus in which the same is installed. In addition, the advertising device displays an advertisement in association with another advertising device installed at the top of another bus and thereby can maximize the advertising effectiveness.

Embodiments are disclosed for a method that may include accessing, from a first data source, events including interactions between a mobile device and one or more network devices on a network at a locale, and receiving external data from a second data source that excludes the network devices. The method may further include determining, based on the interactions, one or more geographic positions and one or more corresponding time intervals of the mobile device at the geographic positions, and correlating the geographic positions and the time intervals with the external data to obtain a metric.

An approach is provided for providing a collaborative reply to a flooding message over an ad-hoc mesh network. A reply message to a flooding message is received by a wireless node within the ad-hoc network. The wireless node monitors for an acknowledgement of receipt of the reply message according to a routing table and initiates a scheduled transmission of the reply message based on the monitoring.

A computer-implemented method receives information describing a current or future activity from a user of a computing system via a mobile device. The current activity is an activity occurring at a current time when the information is received, while the future activity is an activity occurring at a future time relative to a time when the information is received. The method transmits the information describing the current or future activity to a backend database coupled to the Internet and remote from the mobile device. The information describing the current or future activity is accessible to at least one recipient having access privilege to information associated with the user and describing the current or future activity via the Internet.

Disclosed are various embodiments for managing location-based service zones. Specifically, a dynamically sized geographic region surrounding a client device location can be created. Location-based service zones within the geographic region can be selected. If the amount of location-based service zones identified within the geographic region exceed a client-supported limit, a subset of location-based service zones are selected and sent to the client device for monitoring.

A method and apparatus for automatically updating a device that has intermittent network connectivity are described in this disclosure. The method includes receiving, at an electronic device from a server, a notification containing information about a promotion for at least one product, determining, based on the received notification, a change in the promotion for the at least one product, updating an action associated with the promotion based on the determined change in the promotion, and executing the updated action associated with the promotion without a network connection to the server.

An information providing device configured to obtain positional information of one or more registered stores registered as a store of which an occupant of a vehicle wants to receive provision of information from a server; determine whether there exists at least one nearby store located in a vicinity of the vehicle among the registered stores, based on positional information of the vehicle and the positional information of the registered stores; obtain neighboring store information including at least one of crowdedness level, sale information, coupon information, and menu information of the nearby store determined as existing, from the server; and provide the occupant with the obtained neighboring store information and existence information with which the occupant is made aware of the existence of the nearby store.

A computing apparatus is configured to formulate and adjust offers to users of mobile devices that are configured to capture identification information of products, such as UPC codes.
