To provide context-aware audio navigation instructions, a server device obtains sets of audio navigation instructions previously provided to users along with sensor data descriptive of a context in which the audio navigation instructions were provided and an indication of whether a driver correctly responded to the audio navigation instructions. The server device trains a machine learning model using this data, where the machine learning model identifies audio navigation instruction parameters for a particular context. In response to a request for navigation directions, the server device receives sensor data from the client computing device generating the request that is indicative of the environment surrounding the client computing device. The server device then applies the sensor data and navigation instructions to the machine learning model to generate a set of audio navigation instructions responsive to the request. The server device provides the set of audio navigation instructions to the client computing device.

The system also includes a user computing device coupled to the server. The server may be programmed to receive location information from the user computing device. The server may also be programmed to automatically process the location information and determine whether a location of the user computing device is within a predetermined distance from a point of interest geolocation. Then the server may automatically find and retrieve geo-paired information corresponding to or paired to the point of interest geolocation and automatically deliver to the user computing device, for presenting, the content related to the point of interest corresponding to the location of the user computing device.

In some aspects, a process of the disclosed technology includes steps for receiving speech instructions, wherein the speech instructions indicate an autonomous vehicle (AV) destination, analyzing the speech instructions to identify one or more landmarks associated with the AV destination, and determining location information corresponding with the one or more landmarks. In some aspects, the process further includes calculating a route based on the location information corresponding with the one or more landmarks. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

Navigation assistance for the visually impaired

A software application and system may be configured to enable a smartphone or other device to be used by a visually impaired person to receive voice navigation guidance during a directed exploration of an area. Directed exploration uses combinations of location data, directional data, and orientation data from the configured device to determine a direction that user wishes to explore, and only providing narrated results for streets, businesses, and other points of interest in that direction. The system may also utilize sets of wireless indicators positioned within indoor areas to provide accurate positioning to particular locations and floors within buildings.

Providing Additional Instructions for Difficult Maneuvers During Navigation

A machine-learning model is trained using this dataset, so that the machine-learning model is configured to generate metrics of difficulty for the set of maneuvers. A query data including indications of a location and a maneuver to be executed by a vehicle at the location is received. The query data is applied to the machine-learning model to generate a metric of difficulty for the maneuver, and a navigation instruction for the maneuver is provided via a user interface, such that at least one parameter of the navigation instruction is selected based on the generated metric of difficulty.

The method may include receiving, from a user apparatus, a first location and a destination location; calculating a first route from the first location to the destination location; generating, for a predetermined time period, a first set of maneuvering data corresponding to the first route, wherein the first set of maneuvering data comprises playback cues based on a predicted user apparatus location; transmitting the first set of maneuvering data to the user apparatus; receiving, from the user apparatus, a second location; generating, for a subsequent predetermined time period, a second set of maneuvering data, wherein the second set of maneuvering data comprises playback cues based on a further predicted user apparatus location; calculating an update set of maneuvering data based on the first and second set of maneuvering data; and transmitting the update set of maneuvering data to the user apparatus for providing navigation instructions.

A display system applied to a vehicle includes a navigation device guiding a route to a destination and a display control device displaying multiple route guidance contents in superimposed manner on a road surface using a head-up display. When the navigation device determines that a first route guidance and a second route guidance included in route guidance information are successive guidance, (i) the navigation device concurrently displays images of the first route guidance and the second route guidance, and (ii) the display control device activates display of a first guidance content that performs the first route guidance, and then activates display of a second guidance content that performs the second route guidance after deactivating the display of the first guidance content.
