Generating turn-by-turn direction previews

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to generating turn-by-turn direction previews. In one aspect, one or more computing devices, may receive a request for a turn-by-turn direction preview. The one or more computing devices may generate a set of turn-by-turn directions based on a series of road segments connecting a first geographic location and a second geographic location. Each direction in the set of turn-by-turn directions may be associated with a corresponding waypoint. The one or more computing devices then identify a set of images corresponding the series of road segments between two adjacent waypoints of the set of turn-by-turn directions, and determine a subset of the set of images to include in the turn-by-turn direction preview. Subsequently, the one or more computing devices may generate the turn-by-turn direction preview based on at least in part on the determined subset of the set of images.

INFORMATION-ATTAINMENT SYSTEM BASED ON MONITORING AN OCCUPANT

Arrangements herein relate to an information-attainment system and a method of operating same. The system can include an inquiry input system to receive an inquiry for a point-of-interest (POI). The system can also include an occupant monitoring system to determine a potential occupant vector with respect to the POI. The system can further include a processor and a location determination system to acquire positioning information that is directly associated with the POI based on the potential occupant vector. The processor can receive the inquiry for the POI and the positioning information directly associated with the POI based on the potential occupant vector. In response to the receipt of the inquiry for the POI and the positioning information, the processor can be configured to identify the POI and acquire information associated with the POI that is responsive to the inquiry.

USER-SPECIFIC LANDMARKS FOR NAVIGATION SYSTEMS

A server identifies landmarks associated with users as the users take part in trips or otherwise interact with a navigation system. The server causes presentation of the identified landmarks to the users during future trips, such as part of navigational directions along a route to a particular destination, or on a visible portion of a map user interface. Presentation of the user-specific landmarks allows the users with more context and thus the ability to better navigate.

VEHICULAR DRIVER MONITORING SYSTEM

A vehicular driver monitoring system includes an interior electrochromic rearview mirror assembly and a camera disposed at the interior electrochromic rearview mirror assembly behind and viewing through an electrochromic mirror reflective element into the interior cabin of the vehicle. Supplemental sources of near infrared illumination are integrated into the mirror assembly that, when powered to emit near infrared light, illuminate at least the driver-side front seating area within the interior cabin of the vehicle. Presence of the camera is not readily apparent to an occupant of the vehicle. The camera at least (a) views the driver-side front seating area of the equipped vehicle and (b) views a passenger-side front seating area of the equipped vehicle. The driver of the equipped vehicle is monitored via processing at the processor of image data captured by the camera.

Explicit Signage Visibility Cues in Driving Navigation

To provide navigation instructions with indications of visibility of visual aids during navigation, a computing device receives a request from a user for navigation directions from a starting location to a destination location, and obtains a set of navigation directions for traversing from the starting location to the destination location along a route in response to the request. For at least one maneuver, the computing device identifies a visual aid for assisting the user in identifying a location corresponding to the maneuver, determines an amount of visibility for the visual aid, and adjusts a navigation instruction in the set of navigation directions corresponding to the maneuver to include a description of the amount of visibility for the visual aid. The computing device provides the set of navigation directions including the adjusted navigation instruction for presentation to the user.

Navigation Directions Preview

To present a navigation directions preview, a server device receives a request for navigation directions from a starting location to a destination location and generates a set of navigation directions in response to the request. The set of navigation directions includes a set of route segments for traversing from the starting location to the destination location. The server device selects a subset of the route segments based on characteristics of each route segment in the set of route segments. For each selected route segment, the server device provides a preview of the route segment to be displayed on a client device. The preview of the route segment includes panoramic street level imagery depicting the route segment.

Systems and Methods for Identifying Socially Relevant Landmarks

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for identifying socially relevant landmarks that can facilitate wayfinding providing a landmark based route map that is easy to read and is dynamically updated by known and new landmarks based on their social relevance. GPS (Global Positioning System) locations help in identifying active zones and social media data associated with users in the zone help to identify candidate landmarks in the active zone that may be registered as new landmarks. Weights may be assigned to the landmarks based on periodicity and temporal factors to make the landmarks socially relevant and hence effective in wayfinding.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING SIGNATURE AMBIENT SOUNDS AND MAPS THEREOF

Systems and methods are provided for generating signature ambient sounds and maps thereof to assist in navigation based on a start location, a destination location, start time and average walking speed. The maps are generated by concatenating two or more of the signature ambient sounds and two or more of voice based navigation guidance. The signature ambient sounds for up to all location coordinate pairs in a map, for up to all time ranges and for up to all walking speed ranges are generated and tagged to the corresponding location coordinate pair, the corresponding time range and the corresponding average walking speed. The signature ambient sounds are generated by applying digital signal processing techniques on ambient sounds recorded by client devices, that are filtered and outlier removed.

Landmark based routing

The subject disclosure relates to ways to resolve autonomous vehicle (AV) routes based on verbal descriptions of landmark features. In some aspects, a process of the disclosed technology includes steps for receiving speech instructions, wherein the speech instructions indicate an autonomous vehicle (AV) destination, analyzing the speech instructions to identify one or more landmarks associated with the AV destination, and determining location information corresponding with the one or more landmarks. In some aspects, the process further includes calculating a route based on the location information corresponding with the one or more landmarks. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

HOST VEHICLE POSITION ESTIMATION DEVICE

Provided is a host vehicle position estimation device capable of accurately estimating the position of a host vehicle on a map even if there is no landmark that can be referred to on an image photographed using a camera. A host vehicle position is estimated on the basis of intermediate information about a landmark name and landmark distance for an intermediate object extracted from a photographed image of the surroundings of a host vehicle, distance information about the distance to the intermediate object, and landmark information stored beforehand about the landmark name and position.
