The third map range is wider than the second map range. The second map range is narrower than the first map range. It is determined whether it is possible to provide predetermined map information corresponding to predetermined position information based on the second map information to the map information providing apparatus. If so, communication with the portable map transmitting apparatus is controlled to receive the third map information. The second map information is updated based on the third map information and the predetermined map information is acquired from the updated second map information.

Upon receiving an operational input to stop the cooperative operation, the portable device notifies the driver of a warning message or ignores the received operational input if the event location is set in the area.

The disclosed techniques herein discuss determining directions from route data and navigation announcements for each of the directions. For each navigation announcement, a determination is made whether current playback of a media asset in a playlist ends within a predefined time threshold before the navigation announcement. In a positive determination, the playback of the playlist is paused until the navigation announcement has elapsed.

The control device calculates a second traveling route on determining that the terminal position is not present within the first recommended area set for the first traveling route that has already been calculated.

For each direction, a corresponding media asset from media assets in a playlist having a media asset duration that matches a direction duration is determined. The direction duration is the time difference between the navigation announcement and a subsequent navigation announcement.

The route segment characteristic may be provided to a driver assistance component of the vehicle. The driver assistance component may be instructed to alter functionality of the vehicle using a vehicle operational parameter derived from the route segment characteristic.
