Compositions and Methods for Providing a Prognosis for Influenza Infection

Compositions and methods are described that provide prognostic determination of the severity of influenza infection based on the PDE3A status of an individual. Impaired PDE3A function is associated with severe symptoms on contracting influenza. Specific SNP mutations are identified that are associated with impaired PDE3A function, and primers and kits are provided that permit identification of these SNPs. Such information can also be combined with other patient data.

PATHOGEN-SPECIFIC CARGO DELIVERY AND DIAGNOSTIC PLATFORM BASED ON MESOPOROUS SILICA NANOPARTICLES

In various embodiments nanoparticle drug delivery vehicles are provided that specifically deliver a cargo to a target pathogenic organism. In certain embodiments the drug delivery vehicle comprises a mesoporous silica nanoparticle comprising a plurality of pores and an outer surface through which the pores are disposed; a cargo disposed in the pores; one or more antigens attached to the surface of the nanoparticle; an antibody that specifically binds the antigens and are bound to the antigens, wherein the antibody inhibits diffusion of the cargo out of the pores and permit release of the cargo when the drug delivery vehicle is in the presence of the antigen or a pathogen displaying the antigen.

Recombinant human antibodies for therapy and prevention of polyomavirus-related diseases

Provided are novel human-derived antibodies specifically recognizing polyomavirus polypeptides, preferably capable of binding to polyomaviruses of the type of JC virus (JCV) and/or BK virus (BKV) as well as methods related thereto. Furthermore, assays and kits related to antibodies specific for polyomaviruses, polyomavirus VP1 and or polyomavirus VP1 Virus-Like Particles (VLPs), preferably of the type of JCV and/or BKV, are disclosed. The human-derived antibodies as well as binding fragments, derivatives and variants thereof can be used in pharmaceutical and diagnostic compositions for polyomavirus targeted immunotherapy and diagnostics.

MATERIALS AND METHODS FOR RESPIRATORY DISEASE CONTROL IN CANINES

The subject invention pertains to isolated influenza virus that is capable of infecting canids and causing respiratory disease in the canid. The subject invention also pertains to compositions and methods for inducing an immune response against an influenza virus of the present invention. The subject invention also pertains to compositions and methods for identifying a virus of the invention and diagnosing infection of an animal with a virus of the invention.

This invention provides compositions and methods to treat a condition or disease without the use of exogenous targeting sequences or chemical compositions. The present invention relates to single-domain antibodies (sdAbs), proteins and polypeptides comprising the sdAbs that are directed against targets that cause a condition or disease. The invention also includes nucleic acids encoding the sdAbs, proteins and polypeptides, and compositions comprising the sdAbs. The invention includes the use of the compositions, sdAbs, and nucleic acids encoding the sdAbs for prophylactic, therapeutic or diagnostic purposes.

Zika Virus Assay Systems

Provided herein are Zika virus (ZIKV) binding constructs, e.g., antibodies and antigen-binding fragments thereof and antibody mimetics, as well as related conjugates, polypeptides, nucleic acids, expression vectors, host cells, kits, and assay systems. Methods detecting ZIKV infection and/or ZIKV exposure and/or ZIKV immunity are provided.

Assay for JC virus antibodies

The disclosure relates to methods and reagents for analyzing samples for the presence of JC virus antibodies. Disclosed is a method that includes obtaining a biological sample from a subject (e.g., plasma, serum, blood, urine, or cerebrospinal fluid), contacting the sample with highly purified viral-like particles (HPVLPs) under conditions suitable for binding of a JCV antibody in the sample to an HPVLP, and detecting the level of JCV antibody binding in the sample to HPVLP. In one embodiment, determining the level of anti-JCV antibodies in the subject sample provides a method of identifying PML risk in a subject.

AIRBORNE AGENT COLLECTORS, METHODS, SYSTEMS AND DEVICES FOR MONITORING AIRBORNE AGENTS
20190310168 · 2019-10-10 ·

Air flow systems, devices and methods for monitoring airborne agents include airborne agent collectors. Airborne agent collectors for collecting and detecting the presence and/or identification of an airborne agent(s) include a soluble and hydrophilic polycaprolactone (PCL) that has been treated with a base (e.g., a base having a pH greater than 8 (e.g., NaOH, NaHCO.sub.3, KOH, Na.sub.2CO.sub.3, and CA(OH).sub.2) and in some embodiments, also treated with a neutralizing agent for increasing hydrophilicity. Detection and identification of airborne agents captured by an airborne agent collector can be performed using any suitable analytical protocols. Such protocols are well known in the art, and include nucleic acid assays, protein assays (e.g., mass spectrometry), and bioassays (e.g., in vitro and in vivo assays). The airborne agent collectors can be used for the detection and identification of nucleic acid from cells or organisms of any type (e.g., viruses, bacteria, fungi) in fixed structures (e.g., homes, sports arenas, theaters, buildings such as offices, laboratories, hospitals, schools, airports, train stations, bus stations, etc.) and in mobile, portable devices or machines (e.g., aircraft, automobiles, air-freshener, air-purifier, air re-circulator, vacuum cleaner, etc.).

NUCLEIC ACIDS ENCODING ZIKA VIRUS-LIKE PARTICLES AND THEIR USE IN ZIKA VIRUS VACCINES AND DIAGNOSTIC ASSAYS

Transcriptional units encoding Zika virus (ZIKV) premembrane (prM) and envelope (E) proteins, which upon translation form Zika virus-like particles (VLPs), are described. Use of the transcriptional units and VLPs in three different ZIKV vaccine platforms is described. Immunoassay-based detection methods using ZIKV VLPs are described for the diagnosis of ZIKV infection.
