System for improving fluid drainage
A low-cost and simple-to-use system and method to facilitate a prophylactic pleural lavage protocol at the time of thoracostomy tube placement for traumatic hemothorax in order to reduce the need for secondary intervention for the management of retained hemothorax. The invention may be used in conjunction with existing chest tubes and be administered at the time of initial chest tube placement, and continued at the bedside (by a bedside nurse) over the duration of chest drainage, as necessary. The system includes an operator device that semi-automatically administers a pleural lavage protocol consisting of saline instillation, and suction to slow the clotting process, prevent gelling of blood, and maintain drainability.
Methods and Medical Devices for Diverticulosis Treatment
Methods of treating diverticulosis and medical devices suitable for use in such methods are described herein. In an embodiment, a method of treating diverticulosis in an animal comprises clearing the lumen of the colon of the animal of solid matter, isolating a treatment portion of the colon, applying suction at a point within the lumen of the colon to depressurize the treatment portion, applying a material to the external surface across at least one diverticulum of the diverticula on the colon, and removing the suction. In some embodiments, the material comprises an adhesive. A step of applying a second material across at least one diverticulum of the diverticula on the colon can also be included.
Motorized catheter system with improved inflation control
Methods and systems for automated control of the inflation of an inflatable retention member, e.g. a balloon, in a catheter are disclosed. One catheter is preferably a rectal or anal catheter, and the inflation is controlled by a controller. A plurality of predetermined inflation levels are provided, and for each of level, a pumping time threshold and a pressure level threshold are defined. The pressure in the balloon is continuously measured during the inflation. An inflation level is selected form said plurality of inflation levels, and an electric pump is used to inflate the inflatable retention member. Operation of the electric pump is continued until one of the pumping time threshold and pressure level threshold of the selected inflation level has been reached.
Motorized irrigation system
A portable irrigation system includes a reservoir for an irrigation liquid, a probe for arrangement in a user, an electrical system that directly or indirectly pumps the irrigation liquid from the reservoir to the probe, a control unit coupled to the electrical pump to control the electrical pump and to transfer the irrigation liquid, and tubing to provide fluid communication between the reservoir, the control unit and the probe. The control unit also includes at least one manually operable control element to control the electrical pump.
Stool Management System
A stool management system having a tubular body including a first end section disposable in a rectum of a patient and a second end section including a first connector which detachably mates with a second connector coupled to a collection container which receives waste matter passed through the tubular body from the bowel of the patient.
RECTAL DRAIN APPLIANCE
A rectal drainage appliance is disclosed comprising a tubular element having an inflatable balloon at a distal end for anchoring the appliance in the rectum. The appliance includes one or more of: (i) first and second auxiliary lumens communicating with the inflatable balloon to provide independent inflation and pressure monitoring paths coupled to the balloon; (ii) a pressure state indicator defined by a mechanical element configured to flip between first and second states or shapes responsive to sensed pressure; and (iii) a collapsible auxiliary lumen larger than the inflation lumen, and configured to permit admission of irrigation fluid. The pressure state indicator may also be used in intestinal drains.
Device and method of controlled provision of therapeutic liquid in the nose
Methods and devices for providing liquids to nasal and/or paranasal cavities are disclosed. Probe portions of a first and of a second probe are introduced to a user's first and second nostril, respectively. Each probe has a primary channel and a secondary channel. Fluid is provided to the secondary channels to expand the expandable portions of the secondary channels, seal the nostril openings and expand alar sidewalls of the nostrils. This may reveal ducts that lead to the paranasal cavities. The liquid is provided through the primary channels to the nasal cavity, the liquid being disposed to reach and stimulate the soft palate, and may trigger a swallow reflex to raise the soft palate and exert pressure to the liquid, the liquid may find an escape route through the ducts and into the paranasal cavities.
Irrigation system container
A system for anal irrigation is provided. The system includes a container, an anal probe, tubes and an electrical pump. The container has two configurations, a first collapsed configuration and a second expanded configuration. In the first configuration, a cavity for storing tubes and the anal probe is provided. In the second configuration, the container has a cavity for containing irrigation liquid. The pump and valves is stored in a cavity towards the bottom of the container.
CATHETER INSERTION
Devices, systems, and methods of the present disclosure can overcome physical constraints associated with catheter introduction to facilitate the use of a catheter with a large distal portion as part of a medical procedure benefitting from such a large distal portion, such as, for example, cardiac ablation. More specifically, devices, systems, and methods of the present disclosure can compress an expandable tip of a catheter from an expanded state to a compressed state along a tapered surface of an insertion sleeve for advancement of the expandable tip into vasculature of a patient. The tapered surface of the insertion sleeve can, for example, apply compressive forces at an angle against the advancing expandable tip. As compared to other approaches to the application of compressive force to an expandable tip, compressing the expandable tip using an angled force can reduce the likelihood of unintended deformation of the expandable tip.
Dilation catheter tip removal instrument
A method of using an apparatus including a base housing, an actuator, and a blade. The base housing defines an upwardly presented support surface. The base housing also defines a distally oriented tip receiving recess. The distally oriented tip receiving recess is sized and configured to receive a bulbous distal tip of a dilation catheter. The actuator is movably coupled with the base housing. The blade us secured to the actuator. The actuator is operable to move the blade downwardly relative to the base housing. The blade is configured to sever a portion of a dilation catheter along a plane longitudinally interposed between the support surface and the tip receiving recess to thereby sever the bulbous distal tip of the dilation catheter in response to movement of the actuator relative to the base housing.
