A target is for generating X-ray radiation by way of loading with a particle stream containing charged particles. In an embodiment, the target includes a layer structure including at least two metallic layers. A target surface, loadable by the particle stream, is formed by a first layer of the at least two metallic layers of the layer structure including a material including a first metallic element. A second layer of the at least two metallic layers of the layer structure includes a material including a second metallic element. Finally, an ordinal number of the first metallic element is less than an ordinal number of the second metallic element.

The x-ray target includes a thermally conductive substrate comprising a surface and at least one structure on or embedded in at least a portion of the surface. The at least one layer includes at least one second material different from the first material. The at least one layer has a thickness in a range of 2 microns to 50 microns. The present disclosure relates to the production and use of a multi-layer X-ray source target. In certain implementations, layers of X-ray generating material may be interleaved with thermally conductive layers. To prevent delamination of the layers, various mechanical, chemical, and structural approaches are related, including approaches for reducing the internal stress associated with the deposited layers and for increasing binding strength between layers.

The target covers the first transmission surface of the substrate. The transmission target assembly further includes a base. The base surrounds the first and second side surfaces of substrate, exposing a collimator surface of the second transmission surface and the target. The transmission target assembly is configured to transmit x-ray generated by the target through the target and the substrate.

A composite target is provided and is interacted with an electron to generate an X-ray, and an energy of the electron can be changed by controlling a tube voltage at least. The composite target includes a target body and an interposing layer which is connected with the target body. The interposing layer moves a highest peak of an energy spectrum of the X-ray toward a high energy direction. The interposing layer may be a single metal or a metal mixture. Not only a low energy photon of the X-ray can be filtered by the interposing layer, but also a distribution of the low energy photon of the X-ray can be increased by increasing a thickness of the interposing layer. As the tube voltage is enhanced, an amount of a high energy photon of the X-ray generated is dramatically increased. An X-ray tube containing the above composite target is also provided.

The resulting multi-layer target structures allow increased X-ray production, which may facilitate faster scan times for inspection or examination procedures.

Process for repairing an anode for emitting x-rays and repaired anode

A process for repairing a damaged annular region of an anode configured to emit x-rays includes the step of machining the damaged annular region made of an initial target coating to a depth smaller than a thickness of the coating so as to leave behind a residual annular layer. An intermediate layer is then deposited on the residual annular layer. A repairing layer is then deposited on the intermediate layer. A heat treatment is then performed using an anneal which causes, by interdiffusion and formation of a solid solution, the material of the intermediate layer and the material of the residual annular layer to diffuse into each other and further cause the material of the intermediate layer and the material of the repairing layer diffuse into each other. As a result of this anneal the intermediate layer disappears.
